WARWICK FARM
BEST BET
Race 1, No.9: STICK TO YOUR GUNS
The Mark Newnham-trained gelding signalled ability in his two runs at the first prep but was always going to be better next time around and has trialled like that is indeed the case.
NEXT BEST
Race 2, No.9: SUPER VOGUE
Been one of the ‘talking horses’ of the trials in recent times; she sure can wind-up and hit top speed when they push the button on her.
VALUE BET
Race 7, No.5: REGGIEWOOD
Generates a lot of interest here as a former handy New Zealander who just didn’t really take to life in Hong Kong. Has talent.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 3,9,14
Race 5: 5,6,9,10
Race 6: 1,5
Race 7: 5,12
DAILY DOUBLE
1st Leg: No.10 - 2nd Leg: No.5
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Tom Sherry is on 48 wins for Mark Newnham going into this meeting with two big chances on the card.

RACE 1
Stick To Your Guns is by Capitalist but is more a replica of his dam-sire So You Think. In fact, the horse is bred to win a Derby more than a Slipper and thus it would be no surprise to see him in some of the better 1600m/2400m races as his career unfolds. Raced well last prep and trialled well in the lead-up. Taborca has his first start as a gelding. A son of Snitzel, Taborca trials like a decent horse. John O’Shea pair Destiny’s Bounty and Cyber Attack have claims, so too Solvere who ran well on debut.
Bet: Stick To Your Guns to win
RACE 2
Super Vogue is a granddaughter of the stakes-winning mare Dubleanny. This Team Hawkes/Superhorse filly was just so impressive winning her two trials - both times with Jay Ford riding as is the case here. Drawn wide but shouldn’t matter here should it? Note that she is nominated for Canterbury. You wouldn’t mind having a share in Po Kare Kare; here is a Savabeel with it all ahead of her. She could win on pure ability. You Like was disappointing at Beaumont but too early in the preparation to sack.
Bet: Super Vogue to win or if scratched, Po Kare Kare to win
RACE 3
Chris Waller could end up with half the field here and any of those that come, could win without surprising. That said, Grand Rock is entitled to be considered Waller’s top seed on the score of his last couple of runs. Sure, he was beaten a fair way in both, but he’s just dying to get to 2200m. Stablemate Quiet Michael is likewise a very fit horse and gets in with a featherweight. Don Arcanagelo had ‘next time’ and ‘more ground’ written all over him that night at Canterbury.
Bet: Grand Rock to win
RACE 4
Sword Point got a J-Mac special to win at Canterbury the other week but to the horse’s credit, he really roared away late like a $750,000 yearling and son of American Pharaoh/Jazz Song ought to. He is absolutely better than midweek class - or will be - and he runs out onto the pitch full of confidence. Kiterro was probably always going to need the run first-up at Beaumont over 1350m and that’s the way it went on the day. Still, he was hard to miss late in the piece. Good race for him. Viewed’s relation Ausbred Flirt has real promise as a 1600m/2000m type.
Bet: Sword Point to win
RACE 5
Atlantic Seas won on debut at Pakenham for Team Hawkes on June 28. The next time we saw her, she had a new trainer - Chris Waller - who picked out an 1100m Benchmark 72 for her at this same venue on December 22. I don’t think anyone expected her to get as far back as she did but she was really hitting the line late. Note that she was found to be 2/5 lame after the race. Twitch ran third in that same race that day and was somewhat unlucky not to have got closer to the winner. Nice draw again, always tries. Quantenus finished ahead of both Atlantic Seas and Twitch here two weeks ago so is clearly a big player.
Bet: Atlantic Seas to win, quinella 9.10, Daily Double 1st leg (10), 2nd leg (5)
RACE 6
Broken Arrows has mixed and matched in with better horses in better races than this. Granted he has only won four times in his 30 starts but he has 13 placings and a few of them might have been wins had circumstances been different. In short, he is a pattern/luck/good ride-related horse but when the stars align - he’s pretty handy. Astero was fantastic here at home first-up. He did a great job to get as close as he did to Rule Of Law in that very, very fast run 1100m. Twice As Special has two seconds to Never Second and Queen Bellissimo which reads well.
Bet: Broken Arrows each-way
RACE 7
Reggiewood is just about the most interesting horse racing at Warwick Farm. You can get a fuller picture of why in the story to the right of here. Logic suggests that he might need the run and will be better off over longer but Gerald Ryan is one hundred per cent bang on the money when he says “1300m at Warwick Farm gives him a chance”. Mind you, I would be a lot more confident sans Galaxy Belle. Form’s good and she has been trialling like a bomb. Now this is rare - both she and Reggiewood are by Redwood. Sur La Mer, Mensa Missile and Titanium Power all have claims.
Bet: Reggiewood each-way, quinella 5,12
