MORUYA
BEST BET
Race 7, No.6: BLAAZAY
He’s rarely run a poor race to date and this six-year-old will sit back from a wide gate and as long as he finds some cover, he’ll be good enough to finish over the top of them.
NEXT BEST
Race 8, No.2: MOLLY NAILS
She’s a tough mare who is coming out of a strong Highway race when she stuck on to run third. She’s much better suited to 1425m now and won over the trip second-up last time in.
VALUE BET
Race 4, No.4: AFTERSHOCK
She probably didn’t like the tight-turning Queanbeyan track on debut but really came home well once she straightened and with natural improvement off that she might run above her odds.
QUADDIE
Race 5: 3, 4, 5, 11
Race 6: 3, 4
Race 7: 5, 6, 9, 11
Race 8: 2, 4, 5
TRAINER TO WATCH
Kurt Goldman could take out races two and three. Hokahey and Lawyer’s Delight look evenly matched in the second while Private Agent will start short in the following race.
JOCKEY TO WATCH
Damon Budler has good chances on My Blue Jeans, Molly Nails, All Formidable and The Deepest Secret.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR MORUYA
RACE 1
Sifu went so close to winning first-up here and has placed in half her starts to date. A win has got to come soon and from barrier three on Friday there will be no excuses at her home track against a field that isn’t overly strong. Little River Rose ran second in her only trial but did it effortlessly. We find out what’s truly under the bonnet now but going off the trial it would suggest there’s something here to work with. Blood River’s trial also suggested her might be one to take a chance on for his debut. Sweet Rosetta hadn’t been seen since May when running into Everest horse Wild Ruler. This will be a welcome relief.
Bet: Little River Rose each way
RACE 2
Lawyer’s Delight will be much better suited to 1650m now after lacking a little dash in his 1400m race last start but he still rallied to run second and was strong on the line. Stablemate Hokahey will also be better over more ground but does jump from 1200m to 1650m second-up so Lawyer’s Delight has to have the fitness edge third-up. Lights On The Hill copped a bump as they got into the home straight and lost momentum but once he straightened up and got going, he was strong late over 1425m. So I See comes out of the strongest form race when she wasn’t far off the winner. Hard to beat.
Bet: Quinella 2, 11
RACE 3
Private Agent went super off a long break in a Class 3 Highway just behind Leo and Ahead Start and any improvement off that and he wins this. Belieber ran in a Group 3 race on debut and was no match for Peltzer in this year’s Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes. Much better placed here. Esteemed Lady has the fitness edge on most of these and the last start win at Nowra was coming and she only has to carry 54kg here. Shapur will look to have the last crack at them.
Bet: Private Agent to win
RACE 4
Aftershock was the eye catcher of her race when she was produced off a long break and no public trial. She’ll need luck from the wide gate but can sit off them and pounce. There was nothing between Cuban Granchico and Yorker last start when both ran fresh with the same weight. They carry the same again here and aren’t separated by many barriers. Perhaps Cuban Granchico is the one to go with because it was on debut last time. Moombah Flyer was a convincing trial winner ahead of his first run.
Bet: Aftershock to win
RACE 5
Grand Palazzo has been threatening to win one for a while now and no doubt will be running on again and there might just be enough speed in this for her to come over the top of them with a low weight. Blue Grass will be up on the speed at a track she’s run two seconds and a third at from four runs. She could easily bully them and win this from the front. Forgive The Deepest Secret for her first-up run when caught wide. She’s much better second-up anyway so this is her chance. Dancin’ Till Dawn can fire fresh.
Bet: Exacta 4, 11
RACE 6
All Formidable has improved with each run this time in, culminating in a win last start at Wagga when well supported. There’s no doubt that he’s going to claim another one soon and it might be here going by the turn of foot he showed last time out. The only problem for him is he’s facing Get Shafted who bolted in by five and a half lengths last start at this track. Off that he has to be the one to beat. Canzonet has finished less than a length off the winner at his past two but he’s only won once from 19 starts.
Bet: All Formidable to win
RACE 7
Blaazay has been flying for a while now to suggest maybe he’s just above average. He went close to winning a Class 3 Highway three weeks ago and can sit of the speed and let down smartly again and he loves racing here. My Blue Jeans will probably be racing in the back half of the field but, as his race record shows, he’ll rely on luck in the run to get over the top of them. Riverstock will appreciate the step up in trip and a drop of rain won’t hurt being by Tavistock.
Bet: Blaazay to win
RACE 8
Molly Nails, for Matthew Dale, should start a short-priced favourite here off a third placing in a Highway when she showed determination in not shirking the task. She’s fitter for it now and has won second-up in the past. Budderoo Blitz was very good in winning last start and might be the threat to the favourite here. He needs to step up now but that last win suggested he can go close. Viking Power is the other lightly raced horse on the rise and has won fresh at this trip off no trials and that’s the plan again.
Bet: Molly Nails to win
