WAGGA
BEST BET
Race 5, No.3: TAKISSACOD
She’s come back at her best this time in with a win fresh at Queanbeyan and a very good second placing at Warwick Farm last start. He’s peaking to win third-up.
NEXT BEST
Race 7, No.3: PARTICIPATOR
He beat Verbek on debut in May which has proved to be good form because it’s in the Four Pillars at Rosehill on Saturday. The trial was classy looking so he can win again fresh.
QUADDIE
Race 5: 3, 7
Race 6: 1, 2, 4
Race 7: 1, 3, 6
Race 8: 2, 6, 8, 12
JOCKEY TO WATCH
Nick Heywood rides Takissacod who is a top chance while Forever Newyork, Newtown Braveheart and Unique Prince are hopes also.
MOREE
BEST BET
Race 8, No.7: CAMP RIFLE
He’s been on fire for a while now and isn’t going all this way to run second. All he needs is a touch of luck from a wide gate and he’s hardest to beat.
TRAINER TO WATCH
William Freedman will be confident about the chances of Chewie Two, Den Moss, Celestial Doll and La Tigresa.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR MOREE
RACE 5
Pyrmont will be better over more ground now and is third-up and a bubble cheeker has been put on the near side for the first time. Red Beryl has found form under new trainer Jane Clement and the starting price is getting shorter with each start he has for her. Golden Point bolted in first-up for new trainer Stirling Osland. It was on a heavy track but it was too good to ignore even if he’s going up two classes here. Red Roger didn’t get a lot of luck in the straight last time so forgive the 10th place finish and he gets the services of a leading rider so expect a better result here.
Bet: Pyrmont to win
RACE 6
The Big Seal gets an inside gate now and wasn’t beaten far by Akaka Falls last time and it’s gone on to run well since. Sungblue won his trial in nice enough fashion to suggest a good debut was on the cards for a leading trainer who look to have him nice and forward for this. Snowdrop has drawn wide and will probably sit off them. Her form up north isn’t flash but she’s raced in tougher events than this and they often improver in new surrounds under a new trainer. Debutant Soosie Boog trialled up a great fashion and may be able to cross them and lead.
Bet: The Big Seal to win
RACE 7
Flashing Boy used to be trained out of Hong Kong and raced pretty well at his first-up Australian campaign. He’s first-up off a long break and the blinkers have been put on for the first time and he’s worked in them so they must be happy with the results at home. Persian Queen won fresh last time in and presents first-up here off a decent break and she’s been given the gate to get the job done. Pocket Pistol has decent enough form around it and was beaten by horse last start that’s talented enough but he doesn’t want any rain.
Bet: Pocket Pistol to win
RACE 8
Tony Newing was told by jockey Matthew McGuren that the Moree Cup was the ideal race for Camp Rifle and they wouldn’t be travelling this far for nothing. The horse is at the top of his game and will be coming home hard from the back half of the field. Mysticism is the track specialist and ran fourth in this race last year. Rich and Shameless is on a five-day back up off the Coonabarabran Cup when running a close fifth and was second in the Coonamble Cup a start earlier.
Bet: Camp Rifle to win
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA
RACE 5
Takissacod won well first-up and just went down second-up at Warwick Farm and looks well placed to win here. He likes the track and distance and dry weather is what he likes so there’s not much to dislike about his chances. Branders Rule let down in exciting fashion at Albury three weeks ago to book his ticket to this stronger race. He can sit a little closer to the speed now and with a similar turn of foot will be there in the finish. Upper House deserves another chance while Propose To Me and Fusca are chances if they start.
Bet: Exacta 3, 7
RACE 6
Oriental Runner is on the comeback trail off a tendon injury and if he gets back to anywhere near where he was at his best, he’ll win this easy. He’s been to Group 1 level and his new trainer hasn’t seen any issues with him as he gets over the injury and gave him a good winning trial ahead of this assignment. Shores Of Avalon has goo fresh stats and has the form to be a force here as does Magnavale and these two present the biggest challengers to Oriental Runner.
Bet: Oriental Runner to win
RACE 7
Barramundi Lad drops back from a Class 3 to a Class 1 after not getting a lot of luck last start and the run before was a close fourth in the Class 2 so he’s no doubt here to win and has barrier one. Participator beat Verbek on debut and it’s in a $700,000 race on Saturday at Rosehill. He went for a spell after that win and he’s trialled up in top fashion and must be a good chance. Hey Dugee is knocking on the door and is rock-hard fit to give a huge sight.
Bet: Participator to win
RACE 8
Bubbler has had many chances to win but just hasn’t been able to get there. Perhaps the new stable change might help as will running fresh where he’s placed three times from four starts. Unique Prince only needs to return a better horse to close after showing enough at his first preparation. Controversial Miss is also looking like one who is break through sooner rather than later.
Bet: Bubbler to win
