RANDWICK-KENSINGTON

BEST BET

Race 1, No.2: DEVIL’S THROAT

Devil’s Throat, a three-year-old son of super sire Snitzel from the Team Snowden stable, looks hard to beat. He has been runner-up in three of his five starts including twice over the Kensington 1100m course. Ready to win.

NEXT BEST

Race 2, No.2: HIMALAISM

Himalaism, a $950,000 Easter Yearling Sale graduate, was backed into favouritism on debut and was doing his best work late when third to Fireburn at Randwick last month. He is coming back slightly in trip to 1100m but is drawn to get the right run.

VALUE BET

Race 3, No.3: MENSA MISSILE

Mensa Missile raced too fiercely in blinkers last start and over leading early, faded out of contention from the turn behind Fashchanel at Rosehill. He is better suited dropping back to midweek grade and significantly the blinkers have come off for this race. Mensa Missile races well at Kensington and is at value odds.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Tim Clark only has three rides but he could leave the Kensington meeting with a hat-trick of wins from Troach (race 2), Sing A Love Song (race 3) and Mensa Missile (race 6).

TRAINER TO FOLLOW

The Peter and Paul Snowden stable have good chances in three races – Devil’s Throat (race 1), Eleni and Karuta King (race 2) and Construct (race 6).

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR KENSINGTON

RACE 1

Devil’s Throat should get favourite backers off to a winning start by breaking his maiden in the opener. His fast finishing second to Warmth in the Magic Millions Maiden at the rich Gold Coast meeting when resuming last month is a good pointer for this race. He’s been runner-up in three of his five career starts and is bursting to win a race. With Your Blessing has been gelded since last in work and is the danger. Raced by Nick Moraitis of Might And Power fame, With Your Blessing was competitive in some strong two-year-old races last season but didn’t show up in two starts during spring. However, he looked to be bolting just behind the placegetters in a recent barrier trial and James McDonald stays in the saddle. Fielding and New Republic are improvers after being placed at the provincials on debut.

Bet: Devil’s Throat to win, saver on With Your Blessing

RACE 2

Himalaism, a superbly bred colt by champion sire I Am Invincible out of former Group 1-winning sprinter Snitzerland, ran an even race on debut when third to the handy Fireburn at Randwick. The Chris Waller-trained youngster was sent out favourite that day after some good trial efforts and although beaten on his merits, he will take improvement from that run. First starters Shenthara and Eleni have shaped promisingly at the trials. Both are speedy fillies and will put themselves into this contest early. Godolphin filly Troach was strong through the line winning a recent Rosehill trial.

Bet: Himalaism to win

RACE 3

Sing A Love Song also comes out of the Magic Millions Maiden when he ran on well for sixth to Warmth. Fitter for two runs from a spell and finds himself in a winnable race. He does tend to settle back in his races so the small field suits. Sanstoc, a full-sister to ATC Australian Derby winner Tavago, is going to the races for the first time but impressed when she attacked the line to win a recent trial. Anythink Goes just missed at his second start in a Newcastle maiden during spring and resumes off two solid trials. Cap Estel ran her best race when resuming with a closing third at Canterbury and is an improver.

Bet: Box trifecta 1,2,5,8

RACE 4

Competitive race where you can make a case for seven starts. I’m leaning to Bedford Square who has only one win in 13 starts but she is a very genuine mare. Since scoring in a Wyong maiden, she has reeled off a hat-trick of second placings including a narrow loss at Canterbury to My Demetra. Bedford Square is coming back in distance to 1550m but gets in well at the weights with apprentice Dylan Gibbons to ride her at 54kg. Miss Redoble is going to be hard to beat. She charged home to win at Warwick Farm on Australia Day and will be in the finish again. Last start winners Bella Violet and Always Praying are right in the mix.

Bet: Bedford Square to win

RACE 5

Reggiewood, the former Hong Kong galloper, was having his first start in 11 months and ran a blinder when he zoomed home along the inside to finish third to Titanium Power at Warwick Farm. Reggiewood was near last on the turn and although he got an interrupted run through near the rail his finishing effort was full of merit. Fitter and can only improve. Rules Don’t Apply circled the field from last mid-race at Canterbury but was posted three-wide and tired late when sixth to My Demetra. She is fitter for three runs from a spell and James McDonald has taken the ride. Savvy Legend showed a return to form at Canterbury when he burst through late to claim second behind Glamour Fox. Daysan resumes at 1800m but he is a handy stayer capable of running competitively.

RACE 6

Mensa Missile got over-racing with the blinkers on last start and simply went too hard in front before dropping out in the run home behind Fashchanel at Rosehill. He was runner-up in two of his three previous starts and goes well at Kensington. Back to midweek grade, blinkers come off and deserves another chance. Silent Agenda is another coming off a disappointing last start effort but there were excuses. He was trapped three-wide without cover and faded in the run home behind Marnix at Warwick Farm. Silent Agenda was a close second when resuming at his previous start and can bounce back here. Easy Campese just missed in a Midway when resuming at Rosehill and is right in this race. Both Silent Agenda and Easy Campese race well on the Kensington track. Rejoiced has won three of his four starts and Construct will improve this grade.

Bet: Mensa Missile each way, Box trifecta 1,2,3,6

RACE 7

Eyewitness led for a long way in a Rosehill Midway when resuming and was only run down in the final few strides when third to Crosscheck. Smart mare fitter for that run and is building a good race record with four wins from eight starts. Quick Tempo won his first five starts then stepped up to Saturday grade and was competitive when sixth to Silent Impact. Better suited here. Invincible Kiss has returned in good form this campaign with three competitive efforts including a close second to De Grawin at Warwick Farm. She is always at generous odds, drawn to suit and gets in well after the claim. Duchess was first-up in the De Grawin race and finished a close fourth. Duchess will strip fitter and has won on the Kensington track previously.

Bet: Eyewitness to win, saver on Invincible Kiss each way
