A Cody Morgan-trained galloper looks like he will be the ultimate beneficiary of a suitably fast pace so he can launch himself late in the Open Handicap at Scone.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR SCONE
RACE 5
Seahaven is a gelding but it is still worth talking about his pedigree because he is, after all, a grandson of Deep Impact and Alinghi. The Paul Messara-trained, Arrowfield/Alan Jones bred and owned three-year-old was an eye-catcher on debut here when fifth to Bootscooter then went to Tamworth with a bit of authority. Nice horse, Highway bound before too long no doubt. Hunter Bred is a Newcastle resident whose C.V includes a Port Mac win and pretty decent third at Goulburn in a good Bm58 last start. Reach Beyond is a local who strips fitter.
Bet: Seahaven to win, exacta 2 to beat 3
RACE 6
Casino Lord is a Cody Morgan-trained gelding known to possess a powerful finish. The son of one-time Golden Slipper favourite and All Too Hard’s sire, Casino Prince, is going to relish what looks a fast run 1000m but just needs to get some clear air in the straight from his 2 alley. Street Power has won three races, one time he beat Democracy Manifest and won a Highway beating Shelby Sixtysix. Racing at home and sure to run well. Barellan Bandit could sprint well fresh here at home at big odds. Bengalla Bay is also in the mix.
Bet: Casino Lord each-way, quinella 4,10
RACE 7
Spritza Seritza is a locally-trained Deep Field mare from the Rodney Northam yard. Granted, she has only won once in her 20 starts but that win was here at Scone. Basically, she is a very pattern reliant sort of horse, if they put the speed on early, she invariably comes late. Stablemate Fanz has a better strike-rate in that he has won once and placed four times from his eight starts. Seems like he will appreciate the better going compared to his last start on the Heavy 8. The Chosen One and Heredero (if he gets a start) are best of the rest outside of the Northam pair.
Bet: Spritza Seritza to win, box First 4 Nos. 2,3,5,12,17
RACE 8
Keen on the prospects of Penny Halfpenny back home on Tuesday. The Scott Singleton-trained filly was $3.80 into $3.10 last start at Dubbo and while she finished well down the order that day, there were excuses/reasons. Expect a lot better from the Animal Kingdom filly at her home ground this time. Big watch on the former Victorian filly Maha’s Choice who trialled rather well here last month for her new trainer Brett Cavanough who has found a suitable race for the daughter of Extreme Choice who was bred by her owner’s, Bell River Thoroughbreds. Rupertson and Epic Time (if he runs) here are in contention.
Bet: Penny Halfpenny to win, quinella 5,12, exacta 12 to beat 5
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA
RACE 4
Bonvalante is trained at Wagga by Country Championship Final winner Gary Colvin who also bred and owns this son of Bon Hoffa. Bonvalante has raced 18 times in his life, 11 of them are here at Wagga where both of his wins have been. On top of that, one of those was on a Heavy track. Mattash was a big winner at Albury in the Heavy 10 prior to his distant sixth at Echuca. Vital to factor in that the Victorian has won three of his four starts on Heavy tracks. Mulofdubai drops 8kg on his last run and could take running down.
Bet: Bonvalante each-way, box trifecta 2,4,9,11
RACE 5
I’ve Been Trying is a very well-credentialed son of the ill-fated Snitzel son, Spill The Beans. The Canberra resident has raced five times for two wins and two placings and importantly, he is one for one on a Heavy track. Go well. Keith Dryden’s horse All Formidable has been to Wagga four times in the past for a win and a third. That placing came at his last start when he took plenty of ground off those in front of him. Whenitrainsitpours has the benefit of home ground advantage. Indeed, all seven starts have been at Wagga and she is two wins and three placings as well as being one for one at the track/distance.
Bet: I’ve Been Trying to win, box trifecta 1,2,3,4
RACE 6
The Great Man is not a guaranteed starter unless the track improves. On top if he comes but is somewhat unlikely. His absence would open the way for the Goulburn filly Smarter Than You who is bursting to win a race. The daughter of Smart Missile has placed at five of her eight starts and she ran a really good race at her most recent assignment when fifth at Kembla behind The Gift. Market watch advised on the Gary Colvin debutant Manhattan Valley who finished an unhurried second on his May 28 trial here. Boxing Day is unplaced in all three runs so far but two of them, he ran fourth.
Bet: The Great Man to win or if scratched, Smarter Than You to win
RACE 7
Choccy Gaf is a Joe Cleary-trained son of Shamus Award who hasn’t got the flashiest first-up record but it seems that the horse could not have been going any better into a campaign opener judging on those two trials in recent times. Mitchell Beer’s So You Think mare Snowbella has won four and finished runner-up three times from her dozen starts which is a seriously impressive strike-rate. Resumes after contesting the Country Championships Qualifier won by Another One. Chairman’s Choice is a player, Lennox Road is the value.
Bet: Choccy Gaf to win
