MORUYA
BEST BET
Race 3, No.6: AWESOME AUDREY
This Natalie Jarvis-trained black filly is as striking as they come, has a tidy C.V and a decent amount of talent. Go well here.
NEXT BEST
Race 4, No.4: BRAVE MASO
Raced four times for a win and two seconds. Her ‘worst’ run was a whopping fourth at Canberra first-up.
VALUE BET
Race 7, No.7: TORNAC
Has a pretty good first-up record, races well at the track and strikes a winnable race.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 4,5
Race 5: 3,4,5,7
Race 6: 7.9,10
Race 7: 7,12
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Jess Taylor should score enough points on the day to give the TAB Jockeys Challenge a red-hot shake.
MURWILLUMBAH
BEST BET
Race 4, No.3: DIMITRI
Sixteen starts down for just three thirds but the Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained gelding is in the right form and right race to win.
NEXT BEST
Race 5, No.9: KING FAROUK
Open to improvement here second-up at a track and distance which he boasts excellent returns.
VALUE BET
Race 3, No.4: HARDLY THE END
Did some good things in her first preparation. Small field and good barrier play to her advantage.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR MORUYA
RACE 4
Brave Maso is trained here by Natalie Jarvis; the filly won her maiden and only start at Moruya in the most barnstorming style imaginable. Brave Maso resumes over 920m, so let’s hope she doesn’t give away too much of a start that she can’t reel them in. Super Riff is a Norm Gardner three-year-old who is also first-up. Worth bearing in mind that his only win so far was on debut and he beat Rocstar Boy that day. Major player. Stunning Sunrise won as recently as 9-days ago. Will be right there from the outset.
Bet: Brave Maso to win, quinella 4,6
RACE 5
Devilish Dude has just one solitary second to show in his seven starts but that’s very much a reflection of his pattern of racing. That is to say, the son of Brazen Beau invariably goes back in his races, mind you, he has a run of bad barriers which hasn’t helped. Long story short, he is strong late. Another Star is trained at chilly Cooma but is going through a little hot streak of late. If she is ever going to run a mile, it will be here and now. Irish Dancer gave a good account of herself at her first run over 1600m 8-days ago at the Sapphire Coast.
Bet: Devilish Dude to win, box trifecta 3,4,5,7
RACE 6
Bonus Tempus is a member of the first crop of Impending. This Brett Lazzarini-trained gelding was $151 on debut in the 2021 Inglis Nursery and actually didn’t run too badly, beaten only half a dozen lengths. Resumed with a closing fourth at Taree over 1250m; here’s hoping the extra 50m here is enough. Bracewell gets his best chance in a long time to win a race. He was run down by a pretty handy horse (Fairey Barracuda) at Newcastle on June 9. Lady Redwood will go 2400m this prep but could sprint very, very well fresh. She can win.
Bet: Bonus Tempus to win, box trifecta 4,7,9,10
RACE 7
Tornac has only won once in his 16 starts but he has placed six times and five of those are seconds. The other vitally important point to make is that his sole win was here at Moruya where he is trained by Natalie Jarvis. On top of that, the win came first-up as he is here. Viking Power has some depth to his form. The Paul Murray-trained gelding once ran second to Cross Talk at Hawkesbury; beaten a long way but still, a nice run all the same. Drawn may be against him but has Brock Ryan on. Gorush Lightning has seven wins, eight seconds and three thirds from 48 starts. Won three here at home too, he’s one of those horses that you can never leave out.
Bet: Tornac to win
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR MURWILLUMBAH
RACE 4
Dimitri is a Noel Mayfield-Smith-trained gelding who has just three thirds to show in his 16 starts but he has run a fair few ‘good races’ without any reward. Take his last for example, he was beaten an average of two and a half lengths yet has a ‘7’ alongside his name coming into this. You get the sense that this might be his day. Inari Fox has three placings from his seven starts. The son of Star Witness has been to Murwillumbah once before and was beaten by a head. Go well. Huckitta did some good things at his first preparation. Could get home strong.
Bet: Dimitri to win, quinella 3,6, box trifecta 3,5,6,9
RACE 5
King Farouk has only won three times but a lot of that (non-winning) we can attribute to pattern and such. Rest assured that he doesn’t run many outright poor races and he makes appeal here at a track/distance that he loves. Polemic, the former long ago Godolphin galloper posted his 19th career placing at start number 62 on April 29. Got a 61 benchmark which has to count for something. Toowoomba resident Jac The Great has been pretty good in his two runs since changing hands.
Bet: King Farouk to win
RACE 6
Byron Eyes is not a guaranteed starter but she would be on top if she arrives for a variety of reasons, not least her debut fourth to Coco Rox. Assuming she is absent, Cosmo Kramer can step in and do the job. This Gold Coast trained gelding has raced seven times for a win, three seconds and a third. Here’s the best stat though; he has raced at this track and distance twice for a win and a third. Rapids, the gelding with a multimillion-dollar pedigree is third run into the preparation and can figure. Sailing would be a huge player if she comes. Blinding Light’s win was at this same track and distance.
Bet: Byron Eyes to win or if scratched Cosmo Kramer to win
RACE 7
Gimme The Cash is one of, if not, the most progressive horse racing on the card. It’s never easy to go Maiden to Class 1 but Brett Bellamy’s filly did it and did it well. Granted, they were closing in fast on her at Coffs but she went really fast in the early and mid-stages and was 1000m to 1200m on a Heavy 10. Well done to her! Barrier 3 and the claim for Courtney Bellamy are two hugely inviting factors. Fortyfive Parklane has to be forgiven for the last run when on a hat-trick; it was a Heavy 10 for starters. Bean Foggy has a terrific strike-rate and resumes at his home track.
Bet: Gimme The Cash to win
