GOULBURN
BEST BET
Race 5, No.8: WOLVES
She looks well placed here to break through off a good fresh run in town and the previous form was in Stakes grade last time in, such is the stable’s opinion of her.
NEXT BEST
Race 6, No.7: TAYLOR BE SWIFT
She loves wet ground and has already won here on her home track and might be a little underestimated here off a freshen up.
QUADDIE
Race 5: 1, 8, 11
Race 6: 1, 2, 5, 7
Race 7: 1, 2
Race 8: 1, 2, 4
JOCKEY TO WATCH
Jason Collett will fancy his chances on Godolphin runner Yoshino as well as Flower Moon and Good Omens to end the day.
TAMWORTH
BEST BET
Race 6, No.3: APACHE BLUE
He’s drawn to get the gun run under the leading apprentice and he loves heavy ground which he gets second-up after a good fresh tune-up run. Ready to win.
TRAINER TO WATCH
Brett Cavanough looks to have placed Righteous Feeling well along with debutant Out In Force in the second race.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOULBURN
RACE 5
Wolves has run in races like the Furious Stakes behind Jamaea and Reginald Allen Quality against Fangirl so this isn’t her hardest test and she arrives here off a second placing first-up in town two weeks ago on a Heavy 9 track. She’s got to be a hope in a maiden event like this. She beat home Roma Avenue that day fairly comfortably. Yoshino just ran into two above average types first-up at Canterbury but wasn’t shirking the task over the final 100m and will be fitter for it and is well placed in an easier race here.
Bet: Wolves to win
RACE 6
Don Luigi’s four career wins to date have all been on heavy tracks so he’ll no doubt attract support here. He’s very fit too which is going to be vital on this testing surface and from four runs at the track he’s produced two wins and two placings so he’s ticking all the boxes. Taylor Be Swift has won two races this time in and comes into this off a freshen up and won at this track two starts back and she handles it heavy. Horses like Free State, Real Key and Celestial Doll have their claims.
Bet: Taylor Be Swift to win
RACE 7
Eberlee has just ran into the in-form Sur La Mer at her past two runs at Warwick Farm and no doubt welcomes this drop in grade and she laps up the wet conditions and should be strong over 1400m. Flower Moon is two from two at this track and placed at Warwick Farm last start. She peaks now third-up and is the one to beat for a powerful stable which has her well placed. Green Reign was flying home here three weeks ago and ran third to Real Key, who runs in a race earlier, two starts back. He’s only having his third run in Australia and will enjoy getting up to 1400m.
Bet: Flower Moon to win
RACE 8
Good Omens has run improving races this time in and peaks now third-up off two solid Hawkesbury runs for Brad Widdup. Her form last preparation under Chris Waller was around horses like Jojo Was A Man and New King. The heavy track is a query though. Roseirro won in town two starts back and has two heavy track wins to his name and seems to save his best for this circuit. King Of Spades has also never run a poor race here and is on a quicker back up this time which is key for him. He’s run in the top two in half of his 10 career runs.
Bet: Roseirro to win
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR TAMWORTH
RACE 6
Apache Blue will want the track to be heavy because his two wins have been on that surface and he’s going to be a much-improved runner second-up now with the extra fitness after he ran on well fresh. Foreign Brother has drawn out but that isn’t the worst thing for him because he has the speed to cross them from the wide gate under his regular jockey and wet ground won’t hurt. Mook’s Sister races well at home but is suspect on the wet ground as is Warrah Flash.
Bet: Apache Blue to win
RACE 7
Scott Singleton has been thinking Remorseless will just put a field away at some point and this might be the day in easier grade. Salt And Pepper was running on very strongly after getting flushed out on the home turn here last start five weeks ago and he should handle wet ground and enjoy 1200m now. Miss Laquetta must be a chance if she runs here from a good gate.
Bet: Salt And Pepper to win
RACE 8
Hit The Target has to lug 62kg here but probably deserves it. He’s not won here but placed twice from three runs at the track and is the highest rated horse in the race and has a leading jockey with a good enough gate. Rich And Shameless needs a lot of scratchings but if they occur, he’s a big chance of taking this. Hit The Rim must be ready for 1400m now fourth-up and a wet track shouldn’t be an issue with the state’s leading jockey on. Red Beryl gets the easy run from the gate and runs well here and looks like he’s in the right race.
Bet: Hit The Target to win
RACE 9
An open race to end the day. In Spades has been a model of consistency this time in as she develops into the full package. She’s not missed a placing from four runs this preparation and does handle the wet and has drawn well enough with the state’s leading jockey on. Scarzel should challenge her for favouritism off a breakthrough win last start here where he ran over the odds. The wide draw might not be that bad for him with his gate speed. Redeeming Spirit has also drawn out but will look to come across and slot in somewhere and avoid being stuck wide. She won last start on a Heavy 9.
Bet: In Spades to win
