GOULBURN
BEST BET
Race 1, No.3: NOMARA
Stretched a smart filly on debut then romped in three weeks later to win her maiden at Kembla. Has a future well beyond this.
NEXT BEST
Race 3, No.3: WINGSTOFLY
Mark Newnham-trained Not A Single Doubt filly out of a half to Sebring so should swim and is back in grade from a midweek placing.
VALUE BET
Race 6, No.1: BEER PALACE
Could not have been any more dominant or impressive when he won his debut at Newcastle on a Heavy 10 beating a subsequent winner.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 2,4,8,10
Race 5: 2,4,5,6
Race 6: 2
Race 7: 1,2,8,10,12
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Tom Sherry has three rides for Mark Newnham at Goulburn and they can all win.
GRAFTON
BEST BET
Race 4, No.1: DURNSTEIN
Handsome Exosphere replica who ran well on debut here in the summer and has trialled up well for the winter return.
NEXT BEST
Race 8, No.7: KAPSALI
Bint Marscay descendant who has an abundance of talent and quality. Trialled well; has won on soft, unbeaten at the venue.
BEST VALUE
Race 9, No.9: PARKSVILLE
Above-average sprinter who has raced here twice, won the first and then was third in the NRRA Qualifier.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOULBURN
RACE 4
Brynner, a son of the USA mare Toastofbroadway, was very good, and very well ridden too, when finished third at Kembla over 1400m first-up. The Jason Coyle-trained Contributer gelding is bred to get better with each passing day and that’s been the case with him from the outset. Rockierro is a Pierro from the Waterhouse/Bott camp. Drawn 10 but still probably leads here? Take note that he narrowly beat Brynner home at Kembla the other week. Kermadec filly Stellar Moment got a long way out of her ground at Wyong but was warming up late. Better for the experience and the mile suits.
Bet: Brynner to win
RACE 5
Nay To Remember has now raced three times first-up and missed a place at each one. The point being, we can now perhaps overlook his underwhelming return at Kembla on June 18. Vital to note that his only win came second-up, on a Soft 7 beating Baden Road. Sizzle Chic has only won twice in her 14 starts but one of them was a Heavy 8 at Newcastle and she won by upwards of three-lengths. Reoffender has raced five times on Heavy tracks winning two and finishing runner-up at another. Better still, he has raced here six times for two wins and four seconds. Easy Rose beat Divine Miss first-up. Drew wide and got too far back in the Highway last start at Gosford on May 7.
Bet: Nay To Remember to win
RACE 6
Beer Palace was dominant on debut at Newcastle on June 20. It was only a four-horse field but the third placed horse, Beppe, franked the form with a win at Newcastle on the weekend. The ease of Beer Palace’s win stamps him as a horse bound for better races and the fact that it was a Heavy 10 only enhances his likability here. Samindi is a valuable mare being a half to Victorem. The Joe Cleary-trained mare gives the impression that she is building up to another win and Cleary has found her a perfect race to do so. Kariba has raced at Goulburn five times and has two seconds and two thirds there.
Bet: Beer Palace to win
RACE 7
Rebel Love is a really nice filly who has also accepted for tomorrow’s scheduled meeting at Warwick Farm. Cut a long story short in case she is scratched or Goulburn is off, Rebel Love was without doubt the catcher in the Tashi race on the Kensington track on June 15. Strangeless was scratched from a race at Wagga yesterday, bearing in mind that Goulburn is her home track. This Kurt Goldman-trained Pierro filly has finished fourth and third respectively in her two trials but went as well as anything and better than most in both of them. Sending out the right signs that she ‘goes good’. Boston City was pretty impressive winning a June 20 heat at Rosehill.
Bet: Rebel Love to win or if scratched, Strangeless to win
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GRAFTON
RACE 5
Wizard Of Oz was sold for $1 million as a yearling. He was stakes placed at The Valley at his second start but it was all downhill after that. Paul Colley bought him online for $50,000, gave him to Warren Gavenlock and he’s gone ‘2-1’ in his two starts for Plonka’s trainer. Why can’t he win again? Wonderwhen hasn’t missed out on a ‘medal’ in seven starts. The only query perhaps is she has won just once but she has been in some deep maidens.
Bet: Wizard Of Oz to win, quinella 2,4
RACE 6
Attestar is a local mare who has been going along pretty well. Absolutely bolted in at Inverell on May 27 and, as for her last-start sixth of 11 at Port Macquarie, she wasn’t beaten far and the winner, Klopp, franked the form. Speaking of that race, Sweet Home Alabama finished in front of Attestar. Puerto Rico had cardiac arrhythmia at Muswellbrook last start and trialled okay since. Shapes well for a much better outcome here.
Bet: Attestar each-way
RACE 7
Kapsali is a great looking horse, very much his father’s (More Than Ready) son and should plough through the wet. That remains to be seen but what we do know is that he is a genuinely talented horse. Trial was a ripper, too. Cabsav has been up for a while but is holding his form well. Perhaps a question mark at the 1420m but less so now he has drawn 4. Royale Return and Too Much Heaven are in the mix.
Bet: Kapsali to win, exacta 7 to beat 5
RACE 8
Parksville could be a big player on the big days of the Grafton carnival. In fact, the winner of this race gains automatic entry into the Ramornie. As for today, Parksville looks primed for the win and has the numbers to back it up. Ditto for Hidden Hail who is a well-credentialed local. Tara Jasmine is six from six here at Grafton. If she makes it seven, John Shelton gets training performance of the season, hands down.
Bet: Parksville to win
