Godolphin’s crack three-year-old colts Anamoe and Paulele are poised to complete a feature race double at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Anamoe is the dominant $2 favourite for the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) and Paulele tops the betting at $2.90 for the Listed $140,000 Heritage Stakes (1100m).
Trainer James Cummings, hoping for his third Golden Rose after earlier successes with Bivouac (2019) and Hallowed Crown (2014), said Anamoe has come through his first-up win in the Run To The Rose “beautifully”.
“It sets up well for him to be going to another level second-up in the Golden Rose,” Cummings said.
“He looks every bit the type of customer who’s going to relish the extra furlong (a200m).
“It’s a stronger race than the Sires’ and so he needs to be on his game. This is an opportunity for him to continue to increase his profile.”
Paulele was brilliant first-up in The Rosebud then was narrowly beaten by In The Congo in the San Domenico Stakes but a return to a firm track will suit the Cummings colt.
“He is very bright after his narrow defeat in the San Domenico. He is ready to run a really good race,” Cummings said.
“The horse has got versatility, he can either be up there right on the speed or he can be ridden conservatively, and from a wide barrier (10) James McDonald is going to have a decision to make.”

PRICE CHECK
Anamoe (race 8) got into $1.90 for the Golden Rose earlier in the week but he has eased out to $2 despite attracting some big bets including $5,000 at $2, $2,000 at $2, $1,069 at $2 and $1,050 at $1.90.
TRIAL POINTERS
Home Affairs (race 6) is $34 to win the Everest ahead of his return to racing in a blockbuster Heritage Stakes. The Chris Waller-trained colt hasn’t been seen in action since finishing halfway down the order in the Golden Slipper. Prior to that, the $875,000 yearling had won the Silver Slipper and was third in the Todman behind Golden Rose favourite Anamoe and the speedy Profiteer. Home Affairs, a son of champion sire I Am Invincible, has been wound-up to make a statement this afternoon off the back of three hugely impressive trials - all of them wins.
Kiku (race 10) is another Chris Waller-trained galloper with an undeniable winning chance. The Star Thoroughbreds mare is by Waller’s 2013 Golden Rose winner Zoustar and a sister to the Newmarket Handicap winner, Zoutori. Kiku has a fabulous record of four wins and four placings from her nine starts, with an all-important black-type win alongside her name thanks to her barnstorming victory in the Carbine Club Stakes on day one of The Championships. Progressed nicely from one trial to the next and looks spot on for a bold first-up bid.
SECTIONAL STARS
Kermatin (race 2) is a Keith Dryden-trained stablemate of 2021 Kosciuszko fancy Handle The Truth and was most pundit’s Black Booker when she resumed at Moruya 12 days ago. The daughter of Kermadec was a conspicuous last turning for home and seemingly in an impossible position yet managed to get within a length of the winner; zooming home down the outskirts in the 1425m Class 2. The step up to 1500m - and on the big track - can only be to her advantage. Kermartin was one of the canniest buys imaginable, selling for just $26,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Catapult (race 3) is one of numerous ex-Godolphin horses that has thrived under the management of Richard Litt who could be in for a big day given the much-anticipated Gloaming Stakes appearance of $1.9 million Magic Millions sale-topper, Profondo. As for Catapult, this will be the son of Medaglia D’oro’s fifth Midway attempt and while unable to place in any of them so far, he has been flashing up late in all of them and just needs a solid tempo and clear air to break through for his first Midway medal.
BEST BET
Entriviere (race 7) was outstanding when resuming in the Sheraco Stakes, coming from midfield early, going wide on the turn and finishing powerfully to win with authority. She was coming off a slight setback in training yet still defeated many of her Golden Pendant rivals with consummate ease. This classy New Zealand mare is yet to finish out of the top two in eight starts, winning six. She was beaten at her only previous attempt at 1400m but her racing pattern suggests this trip will be ideal. Hard to beat again.
VALUE BET
Without Shame (race 2) had no luck in a Randwick Highway over 1100m two starts back then endured a wide run but his fast finishing fourth at Dubbo over 1300m was a good pointer for this race. He drops 3kg, goes up in trip which he should enjoy getting out to 1500m. He’s great value at nearly double figure odds.
THE JUDGMENT
Race 7: Golden Pendant (1400m)
Paul Joice (Sky Thoroughbred Central): “Entriviere has the best form and should win. Dominant victory in the Sheraco and still well treated at the weights. Forbidden Love is getting close to her peak. Has to give her rivals weight but should get a lovely run. Fituese has never gone better.”
Glenn Munsie (Sky Sports Radio): “A race where most are second up and it lacks speed. Would love a positive ride here on Icebath who has been plagued by wide runs at both starts this time in and meets Nimalee 3kg better for their runs at Kembla. Vangelic holds fence with Nimalee going forward and she can sit behind them. Just thought $10 was overs compared to a few others in the race.”
Michael Sullivan (bookie): “Entriviere looks best of the day. Dominant first up in the Sheraco and 1400m shouldn’t pose a worry. Our punters happy to be on her as she accounts for more than 50% of the early hold. Some money for Nimalee also.”
Andrew Georgiou (TAB): “While Entriviere was the first horse backed on Wednesday, punters have really rallied for Nimalee in the past 24 hours. Good luck to those who got on at $11.”
Verdict: Entriviere
R8: Golden Rose (1400m)
Paul Joice (Sky Thoroughbred Central): “Anamoe too good. Beat them convincingly first-up in the Run To The Rose (1200m) and has more improvement to come. Also better suited out to 1400m. In The Congo should control the race from in front and fights hard. Artorius rattling home late.”
Glenn Munsie (Sky Sports Radio): “Anamoe was far too good when albeit a narrow winner first up in the Run To The Rose but was coming off a setback and only one trial. Should derive considerable benefit from that run and meets those he beat at the same or better off at the weights. Just needs to get in from a tricky draw so he deserves to be in black figures not red. Tiger Of Malay is best of the roughies with a 1500m run under his belt and a better draw.”
Michael Sullivan (bookie): “No prizes again but Anamoe hard to topple. Was seemingly underdone first up but still accounted for them and he’ll only be better over 1400m.”
Andrew Georgiou (TAB): “Anamoe looks over the line and our customers are treating him as such. Is responsible for a whopping 65 per cent of the total investment.”
Verdict: Anamoe
R9: Gloaming Stakes (1800m)
Paul Joice (Sky Thoroughbred Central): “French Emperor looks a genuine stayer. Bolted in at only his second career start. Needs to handle a rise in grade but the blinkers go on and has drawn well. Head Of State looking for this trip. Big hope. Arnaqueur also crying out for this journey.”
Glenn Munsie (Sky Sports Radio): “An extremely open race with formlines from everywhere. I thought French Emperor was really on the way up after only two runs but his win at Goulburn was full of merit considering how badly he hung the last half. Really flattened out last 100m to run away and a raft of gear changes for this. Has the speed to fully take advantage of this barrier & 1800m looks suitable. Great odds.”
Michael Sullivan (bookie): “Benaud impressed out wide first up and bred to appreciate the trip. Still needs a scratching to reach the field but I thought he represented some value in a wide-open affair.”
Andrew Georgiou (TAB): “The most open race of the day with a few nibbles for Profondo and French Emperor. Dark Rebel is my each-way play.”
Verdict: French Emperor
