EXCLUSIVE: Glen Boss has won a three-way jockey race to secure the sought-after ride on Melbourne Cup favourite Incentivise.

News Corp can reveal the three-time Melbourne Cup winner, famed for his Cup feats on Makybe Diva, will ride Peter Moody’s $11 Melbourne Cup favourite, who is also the $7 Caulfield Cup favourite with TAB.

Incentivise’s part-owner Steve Tregea, the star galloper’s original trainer from Toowoomba, confirmed the news when contacted by News Corp on Wednesday evening.

Tregea said Craig Williams has also come under strong consideration for the Incentivise ride and champion Melbourne jockey Jamie Kah had also been in the mix.

But in the end Boss won out to ride the hyped galloper in the spring including in the Melbourne Cup.

“There were some other names in the mix and there was some debate and we took a while to decide but Glen (Boss) has got the nod,” Tregea confirmed.

“I have just got off the phone with him and we are all very excited.”

News Corp revealed last week that Boss had effectively chosen to ride in the Melbourne spring carnival ahead of the Sydney spring.

Last year’s Cox Plate-winning jockey flew from Sydney to Melbourne on Monday to begin a two-week quarantine period for his bumper spring carnival mission.

The Caulfield Cup has been the nut that Boss has so far been unable to crack in his glittering career.

Victory in the Caulfield Cup on Incentivise would see Boss complete the “Grand Slam” of Australian racing, having already won four Cox Plates, three Melbourne Cups and two Golden Slippers.

Incentivise blasted his way into Melbourne Cup favouritism with a series of blistering winter carnival wins with Tregea in Queensland before being sent to Peter Moody in Victoria for the big Cups.

Winning his past four Queensland outings by a total of nearly 40 lengths caught the attention of prominent Victorian owners Brae Sokolski and Ozzie Kheir who bought a 50 per cent stake in the son of Cox Plate winner Shamus Award.

The likely spring kick-off for Incentivise is the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on September 11.
