RANDWICK
Track: Soft 6. Rail: True
RACE 1
Overview: Life Well Lived has been tracking well in easier races and he finds the services of Hugh Bowman here. Mirror Queen has also been impressive in easier grade and maps to get all the favours here. Zadig bolted in last start in Highway grade but now goes up in trip, while Relucent is well weighted here and will have admirers as well.
Betting Advice: Mirror Queen looks the map horse.
RACE 2
Overview: Highly Desired was pretty impressive last start and this looks a good race for him again with a smart claim for Dylan Gibbons. He just has to run out 1800m now. Adios Steve stuck to the task well on the Kensington track last start and he will be better for the run over this trip. Nicochet is an honest galloper, while Segrill and Etheridge would both be competitive here if they could recapture their best form.
Betting Advice: Not much between Highly Desired and Adios Steve.
RACE 3
Overview: Marakopa just loves Randwick and he has really found some consistency of late. He should get a good run in transit and should be strong late. Our Candidate bolted in at Grafton last start and he is having a good campaign. Cadre Du Noir won third up last prep and has trialled well since last start. So United next best.
Betting Advice: Leaning to Marakopa.
RACE 4
Overview: Conqueror is hard to tip against here and he looks a progressive horse for the Chris Waller yard. The form out of his debut win has been strong and the overall time was pleasing as well. Cotton Fingers, I’ve Bean Tryin, Gracilistyla and Coodarady should all have admirers but I’m happy to tip the horse on the up here in Conqueror.
Betting Advice: Conqueror on top but no spoil at the early price.
RACE 5
Overview: Pizarro has been going great guns this prep and he was given a super ride by Hugh Bowman last start. The only concern here is the inside draw and how the fence is holding up but he does look hard to beat. Niffler drops back sharply in trip but she looked switched on in a recent trial and she had excuses last start. Equation comes back as a gelding and can finish off strongly as well.
Betting Advice: Leaning to Pizarro.
RACE 6
Overview: Van Giz was outstanding behind The Bopper first up last prep and she just had to get too far back from the wide draw that day. She draws a good gate here and the claim for Dylan Gibbons is a big plus. Smirnova should have won first up last prep and has trialled well leading into this. Maotai returns as a gelding and looked more relax in a recent trial. I wonder whether they will ride him quieter here? Leo has a great record at this track and distance and looks next best.
Betting Advice: Van Giz the value.
RACE 7
Overview: Lord Ardmore looks a progressive middle distance horse and there’s no reason he can’t win again here. He is only third up and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to contest some better races than this in the spring. Alcyone was a dominant winner first up and he still has upside second up out in trip. Francesco Guardi was no match for Lord Ardmore last start but must be respected as well.
Betting Advice: Lord Ardmore to win.
RACE 8
Overview: Hard race to assess with most of these resuming from a break. Forbidden Love was outstanding last prep and there’s no reason she can’t be in the finish fresh. Belluci Babe really came of age last prep and her recent trials were pleasing. She is right in this fresh. Embracer and Count De Rupee will also have admirers.
Betting Advice: Not much between Forbidden Love and Belucci Babe.
RACE 9
Overview: Open race as the market suggests. Bold Mac was a good winner first up and the step up to 1600m looks a logical step. Contributingfactor was dominant last start and he finds the services of Dylan Gibbons here. Casino Kid gets out to a more suitable trip and will also be storming home late.
Betting Advice: Not much between Bold Mac and Contributingfactor.
RACE 10
Overview: Jal Lei hit the line well second up and he looks ready to peak now third up on the home track. Glittery is having a really good campaign and she just has to see out the 1200m now. Eye See Things was impressive first up and gets her chance in Saturday grade now, while Sunrise Ruby, Lady Brook and Marchioness are all capable.
Betting Advice: Boxed trifecta: 1,2,7,9,10,11,13.
