AFL 2019 Round 7 preview

This week’s waiver period is over but there could still be a number of SuperCoach Draft sleepers in your league’s free agency pool. The Phantom looks at the best Round 7 picks.

Sam Gray (Port), Fwd

Three-round average: 101

Move over, Robbie, Sam is the Gray to own in SuperCoach — at least on current form, anyway. If he’s available in your league, don’t hesitate to jump on after the 27-year-old posted scores of 74, 127 and 103 in the past three rounds. With Motlop in the SANFL and Robbie set to miss a month with a broken hand, Gray’s role — which as seen him tally 54 disposals and six goals in the past two matches — should only increase.

Alex Keath (Adel), Def

Three-round average: 97

If you’re after a back-up defender, Keath could be your man. The 27-year-old, who is averaging 20 disposals and 11 marks in the past three matches, leads the competition for intercept marks after six rounds.

Jordan Dawson (Syd), Mid

Three-round average: 97

The young Swan was sent back to the NEAFL — a competition he’s dominated over the past two years — for one week following a quiet Round 1 but he’s had a big influence in the Swans’ past three games. Dawson, who plays forward and through the midfield, finished with 31 disposals, 11 marks and 104 points against the Tigers in Round 5, before tallying 18 disposals, two goals and 99 points in last week’s Sydney Derby.

Jed Anderson, right, is slowly building after an injury-interrupted start to 2018.

Jed Anderson (NM), Mid

Three-round average: 83

After missing the first three rounds, the exciting Kangaroo midfielder, who averaged 86 points per game in the opening 10 rounds of 2018 before injury halted his momentum, is building nicely this season. The 25-year-old has finished with scores of 74, 80 and 96 in the past three weeks.

Gary Rohan (Geel), Fwd

Three-round average: 88

He’s not often spoken about in SuperCoach circles — and, rightly so, given he’s never averaged more than 69 points in any of his nine seasons — but we can’t ignore his past two weeks. The former Swan has booted eight goals and posted scores of 105 and 110 in the Cats’ wins over the Hawks and Eagles. And with North Melbourne, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Sydney to come after the Bombers in Round 7, there could be a few more bags around the corner.

Joe Daniher (Ess), Fwd

Average: 69

This one is more speculative but, at his best, Daniher is a great SuperCoach scorer. The Bomber forward averaged 86 points per game in his All-Australian year in 2017 and was a standout in the Anzac DAY clash with 13 disposals, eight marks, four goals and 84 points. You might benefit later in the year but stashing him on your bench now.
