THEY are already stars on the rise but a touch of inside knowledge has helped deliver wins at the Nerang BMX Club. SEE THE GALLERY

SIBLING speedsters Kai and Saya Sakakibara wound back the clock at their home away from home to further bolster their growing reputations.

There was no stopping the brother and sister duo at Nerang yesterday as both raced to impressive victories in the elite classes during Round 4 of the BMX Australia National Series.

More than 500 riders from five through to masters aged claimed 41 category prizes.

Standing tallest was Illawarra pair the Sakakibaras.

The wins should come as little shock, though, given the first time the Sakakibaras came across BMX was about 7km down the road from Nerang at Ashmore.

“I love being in Queensland, this is the perfect training environment and I just love racing here,” Kai said.

Kai showed greater dominance than his only other national series victory for 2018 – at Penrith in February – in the men’s elite division.

“It was the first race of the year for me in Penrith and I didn’t feel quite myself after coming from behind to win it,” he said. “But (yesterday) was all about controlling the race.”
