Two brothers-in-law have a chance to settle the ultimate family BBQ argument when they line up opposite each other on the football field for the first time.

Which sister has nabbed the tougher bloke? Coomera Crusher Nela Tuivai and Helensvale Hog Daley Harper will find out at 3pm Saturday when they go head-to-head in the midfield in Gold Coast First Grade.

Their partners Steffie Haimona and Moana Harper will be on the sidelines watching as their beaus do battle.

If either hope the family connection will take it easy, they’re sadly mistaken.

Barrel-chested Tuivai, 115 kilograms plus, has no plans to alter his violent playing style.

“I’m on the other team, mate – I’ll do what I need to do,” he said.

“I just play the game how it is because there’s no friends on the field, even though we know each other off the field.

“I’m not going to judge him on how big he is but he’s pretty bulk for a little guy.

“He could probably get me on the outside (with his speed).

“He looks pretty fit where I look a bit (bigger)”

War of words erupts in club rugby as GF rematch cancelled

Their reunion came as a surprise for Tuivai, who had no idea his brother-in-law was playing rugby until he was contacted by the Bulletin. Their personal duel in the centres will provide a compelling backstory to the clash between the defending first grade champions and the newly-promoted kings of third grade, Crushers.

Crushers outperformed expectations in their return to first grade against Nerang Bulls, falling 11-3 to last year’s semi-finalists.
