The April sporting calendar finished on a bang with the 13-15 years Queensland School Sport netball Championships held at Nissan Arena.
From epic shots and clean defence to picture perfect prelims, we reveal who stood out and who was named in the QLD 13-15 years state team for the 2023 National Championships in Perth.

CAPRICORNIA
Jaya Dyne
The Cathedral College, Rockhampton
A tall and dynamic GA, Dyne reads her WA and C like a book.
She clearly shows her teammates where to place the feed, and can quickly turn around to put hands over on transition.
When stuck, Dyne looks to her fellow shooter to get closer to the post.
Finn Robinson
Toolooa State High School
Robinson is a smart mid court player who avoids hogging the ball.
She is able to feed her shooters with ease, and boasts an effective change of speed and pace to lose her defence
DARLING DOWNS
Simone Botha
Fairholme College
An easy target for her feeders, Botha is tall and strong in the shooting circle.
Lainey Currie
Fairholme College
Currie is the make-up of a star circle defence.
She keeps her GA out of rebound position, puts hands over very ball to block down-court vision, and gains tips on ball that slows the pace.
Kenzie van Zandergen
St Joseph’s College
Able to play both man-on and zone defence, van Zandergen is a pest to her opposition.
She can pull in a ball from anywhere and never wastes a pass that comes her way.
Her ability to switch defensive styles means she can target her player’s weaknesses.
Lucy Williams
Mary Mackillop Catholic College
A patient shooter who is able to hold her space and work from behind to get in front for a clear offer.
METROPOLITAN EAST
Caitlin Leslie
Mansfield State High School
The perfect match up in GK for some of the competition’s strongest shooters.
Leslie is tall, competes for the lob and has a quick transition into attack after a turnover.
Charlotte Blain
All Hallows’ School
In GD Blain boasts an impressive jump from standing and on the move.
She goes for every ball and tracks her GA from the centre third.
Harmony Letoa
Rochedale State High School
Playing mainly GS, Let holds perfectly in the circle, angling her body right and showing her feeders where to place the ball.
Where others struggle, her timing to receive a lob is on point which adds to her chemistry with the GA.
Eden Ah Toon
Brisbane State High School
Named ‘most valuable player’ of her team by opposition coaches, Ah Toon’s mid court defence is exceptional.
She is a strong and dominating presence.
METROPOLITAN NORTH
Samara Davis
Mary MacKillop College, Nundah
A hunting circle defence with a keen eye, Davis allows her GS to run out before picking them back up at the circle edge.
It sure makes life hard for the opposition attack.
Asena Sefeti
Wavell State High School
Provides an offer out of shooting circle when options are scarce.
Safety has a strong hold and keeps defence on the back foot

Peterson can shoot under fatigue and offers a safe option on centre pass.

Dynamic movement in and out of the circle from Richter makes space for the GS.
Her height combined with long arms puts pressure on defence during transition and often results in gaining back possession.

Tonkin’s skills include a quick pivot and release, vision into the shooters and smart decision making on the centre pass.

Prisha Pawar
St Peters Lutheran College
Pawar is a smart and patient player who looks for the reset when needed.
She can take ball in under the pressure of taller defence, and offers out of the shooting circle when needed.
Charlotta Ever
St Peters Lutheran College
A clean outside arm defence is just one of Ever’s talents.
She sticks to tight on defence which keeps her player from making the circle edge and never forgets her arms over to block down-court vision.

Addison Whalley
Kirwan State High School
Whalley has superb hands over on transition as GA.
She is confident in her movements and able to find the front space for easy feeding.
Sienna Young
St Margaret Mary’s College
Tracks her player down-court, with the huge advantage of speed and agility.
PENINSULA
Ella-Moana Tikitau
Trinity Bay State High School
Impressive baseline drives and quick footwork to readjust position when covered by defence combines to make Tikitau a versatile athlete who can play from GS to WD.
Ciarn MacBride
Trinity Bay State High School
MacBride stays ready on her toes, forcing errors over the baseline as GK.
She is engaged with transition after a turnover and is all over rebounds.
Carleena Robati
Trinity Anglican School
Works well in any defensive combo and keeps her shooter out of rebound position.
Robati can manage a two-on-one situation when her co-defender is called out-of-play.
SOUTH COAST
Julianna Tamala
Canterbury College
Boasting speed through the mid court, Tamala can play WA or WD depending on where the team needs her.
She is a talented cross-sport athlete who was last week named a training partner for the 13-15 years schoolgirls volleyball side.
Harlow Faaee
King’s Christian College
As circle defence, Faaee moves around the shooters body to confuse space and is able to defend both front and back position.
She communicates effectively with teammates to switch when needed.
Embah Tait
Australia Christian College
Reads where shooter is holding and drives front with perfect timing.
Ava Barrett
Coomera Anglican College
An accurate shooter who shows where ball needs to be fed.
Barrett creates space for her GA to drive and is strong when pulling the ball in.
SOUTH WEST
Ebony Lewington
Roma State College
Uses preliminary moves to lose her defender, and capitalises on the space available.
Lexington can transition quickly from attack to defence.
Cadence Vermeij
Chinchilla State High School
Vermeij communicates effectively with her shooter and WA and looks down-court for the smartest pass option.
She is tall but mobile in GA with an impressive shooting range.
SUNSHINE COAST
Alice Murfett
Southern Cross Catholic College, Scarborough
Able to lose her player on centre pass with a range of prelim movements.
In defence, Murfett picks up her player after first defending the space.
Samaya Cook
Chancellor State College
Using height to her advantage, Cook boasts a high jump over the shot without falling in.
Emmersen McEwan
Good Shepperd Lutheran College, Noosaville
McEwan uses the quick double play option with her WA to work closer to the post and execute safer shots.
She goes for every rebound and follows her own shot without hesitation.
WIDE BAY
Lauren Harris
Urangan State High School Hervey Bay
A clean defender with good hands over pressure and the ability to rank her play down-court.
Sienna Hilton
Xavier Catholic College
Consistent positioning at circle’s edge for feeds is Hilton’s speciality.
On top of that, her loose ball chase and vision into the shooters is incredible.
Ava McNamara
Shalom College, Bundaberg
Accuracy and defensive transition are what makes McNamara stand out to the crowd.
She moves seamlessly across the top of the circle and reads off her shooter well.
WHO MADE THE STATE TEAM FOR 2023?
There were 12 players and five training partners named in the 2023 Queensland Schoolgirls 13-15 years team.
The players will travel to Perth to compete at the National championships this June.
