WICKED Knickers’ debut may have been delayed but it was worth the wait, with the two-year-old getting her career off to a perfect start on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Wicked Knickers, ridden by apprentice Jag Guthmann-Chester, won the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (900m) after impressing in multiple jump-outs and a Gold Coast trial where she finished second just a week earlier.
Gold Coast trainer Bruce Hill said he couldn’t have asked for a better run from Wicked Knickers ($5) who is still improving.
“It was a very good win. She did everything pretty spot on,” Hill said.
“She had probably three or four jump-outs and had a trial where she did well.
“In all of them she just kept getting better all the time. She was even better again (on Saturday) with her fitness and racing attitude.”
Hill originally planned to run Wicked Knickers – by Wicked Style from Garments – but a problem with the approval of her name meant her first run was nearly a month later.
“She has done a big job to come all the way through and get there so I’m really happy with her,” Hill said of the filly’s debut win.
“When we sent away to get her name done it got stuffed up and put back two or three weeks where she would have gone to the races.
“We had to hold her up and wait for a trial.”
Wicked Knickers’ win was one of two Hill had on the Gold Coast on Saturday with Redsson ($5.50) winning the Class 3 Handicap (1200m) just a race earlier.
It takes Hill’s record to three wins from five runners over the past two weeks following Emvepee’s victory at Eagle Farm a week earlier.
“I hope it keeps going,” Hill said.
“The horses are just right at the right time and in their right races.”
Hill said Wicked Knickers would likely recover for a couple of weeks after running in Saturday’s heat before chasing more QTIS races, either in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.
