Trainer Toby Edmonds and jockey Jeff Lloyd combine to win with Sneaky Glance on Gold Coast

THE Magic Millions 2YO Classic-winning duo of Toby Edmonds and Jeff Lloyd have combined to win at the Gold Coast again in what could be a prelude to a run in the Sunshine Coast Guineas for Sneaky Glance.

A $6.50 chance, Sneaky Glance cruised midfield before burning his rivals down the outside in the straight to win the Maiden Plate (1200m) by 3½ lengths yesterday.

It was the three-year-old Husson gelding’s first run since shifting from Sydney to join trainer Edmonds’ Gold Coast stable and the first win of a four-start career.

Edmonds and Lloyd teamed to win the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic with filly Houtzen at the Gold Coast on January 14 and their success rate as a combination is almost 27 per cent.

Edmonds said Sneaky Glance had displayed talent in recent work but the win confirmed it was genuine.

“He has shown us that sort of work at home and we would have been surprised if he did get beat,” Edmonds said.

“His form prior to it wasn’t that good so we were not quite sure if he was genuine.

“We just took all the gear off him, worked him up and got him going good.”

Sneaky Glance had previously won a trial in Sydney in December last year but his previous best race result was a fifth at Muswellbrook.

Edmonds said Sneaky Glance could work towards the Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on July 1 or Grafton Guineas (1600m) on July 12.

The success was the first of two straight wins for Lloyd, who took his season tally to 154 when the Ben Currie-trained two-year-old Crusher won.

Lloyd was hopeful both horses, particularly Crusher, would improve further.

“(Crusher) has had two starts for two wins and she is not a big filly but she’s nicely bred so hopefully she can go on a little bit more,” he said.

“(Sneaky Glance) had his first run for Toby and that was a big improvement on his three runs in Sydney so hopefully he can improve too.”
