MICK Mair has a shot at a record winning haul at the Gold Coast today with the trainer confident all four of his runners can secure victory.
Three of the Sunshine Coast-based Mair’s horses are favourites to win including Legadema ($2.50), Fast Arrow ($2.60) and Queenofthepixies ($3) while he insisted Perforation ($6.50) is also a good chance to win.
“They are four chances out of four and it would be nice to win them – it’s always nice to win,” Mair said.
“They probably deserve to be favourites.
“Fast Arrow has got a fair bit of weight (61kg) but he probably deserves it.
“They just poke about in races they are going to be chances in, so hopefully we can have a good day.”
Leading Gold Coast jockey Daniel Griffin will ride Legadema in the 2YO Handicap (1100m), Fast Arrow in the Benchmark 75 (1800m) and Queenofthepixies in the F&M Class 3 (1400m) while Michael Hellyer will be aboard Perforation in the C, H&G’s Class 3 (1400m).
Mair, 67, trained group winners at every track in Sydney while he was based at Warwick Farm before relocating to Queensland 30 years ago.
And while he has had plenty of winners at the Gold Coast, winning four on the one day at the Turf Club would be a personal best as he looks to take half of the races on today’s program.
Mair said Fast Arrow was the best of the group with the six-year-old gelding securing one win and two seconds from his last four starts at the Sunshine Coast.
But all four carry form going into today.
Legadema won first-up at Eagle Farm earlier this month while Queenofthepixies has had three wins, two seconds and a third from nine career starts so far.
Perforation also won his last start at the Sunshine Coast on February 12.
