Golden Slipper Day, one of the great meetings in Australian racing, boasts five Group 1 races on an outstanding program at Rosehill Gardens today.
There are 21 individual Group 1 winners competing at Rosehill with the raceday highlighted by the $5 million Golden Slipper (1200m), the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.
The Slipper field has been described as the most open in years and that’s reflected in betting, with Wodeton and Tempted $5 equal favourites.
Champion mare Via Sistina is attempting to become only the sixth horse to win at least six Group 1 races in a season since the race classification system was introduced in 1978 when she contests the $1 million Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

The legendary Kingston Town was the first to achieve the feat with six majors in 1979-80, then Weekend Hussler also managed six big race wins in 2007-08.
The unbeaten Black Caviar won six Group 1 races in successive seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, then the mighty Winx won six Group 1 races in 2016-17 and again in 2017-18 before she managed a record seven majors in her final season of racing, 2018-19.
Anamoe also won six Group 1 races in 2022-23 and like Kingston Town, Weekend Hussler, Black Caviar and Winx, he earned Horse of the Year honours that season.
The Chris Waller-trained Via Sistina is a virtual lock for Horse of the Year this season and there will be no debate if she wins the Ranvet Stakes for which she dominates betting at $1.35.
Waller, who trains Wodeton, also has Fangirl as the $3.10 favourite for the Group 1 $1 million George Ryder Stakes (1500m).
Godolphin’s outstanding colt Broadsiding is the $1.95 favourite to win the Group 1 $750,000 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Newcastle’s unbeaten three-year-old Private Harry is at the top of betting at $3.30 for the Group 1 $1 million The Galaxy (1100m).
In Melbourne, racing at The Valley is highlighted by the Group 1 $1 million William Reid Stakes, with the Ciaron Maher-trained Oakleigh Plate winner Jimmysstar ($3) at the top of betting.

• BIG BETS: Star filly not forgotten on Golden Slipper Day
■ ■ ■ ■ ■
BE WARY: Rosehill’s rail has been moved out 3m after being in the true last week. This is generally the best rail position at Rosehill, particularly when the track is in the good range. Moonee Valley’s rail is in the true and the track is in the soft range. Watch early races for any discernible track bias.

ROSEHILL GARDENS
BEST BET: BROADSIDING (Race 6 No.1) was outstanding winning the Hobartville Stakes first-up then he had his chances when a close second to Linebacker in the Randwick Guineas. He has been improved by two runs from a spell and is back at Rosehill where he excels. The step up to 2000m shouldn’t be a concern as he did run a brave third against older horses in Via Sistina’s Cox Plate last spring. Broadsiding should be at his peak third-up, he’s the class horse of the Rosehill Guineas field, and is getting out to a backable price now around $2 with TAB Fixed Odds.
Broadsiding returns with a bang! ð¥ He's just too good for them in the G2 Hobartville Stakes - and that's a 4th Rosehill winner for @ZacLloydx ð@JamesCummings88 | @godolphin | @aus_turf_clubpic.twitter.com/5brw4Y5sdV

THE NEXT BEST: PRIVATE HARRY (Race 9 No.13) takes an unbeaten record into his Group 1 debut for The Galaxy. The exciting three-year-old has won each of his four starts brilliantly including The Sunlight at the Sunshine Coast last start where he defeated top filly Lady Of Camelot. The form out of that race has been franked with Lady Of Camelot racing well at Group 1 level this autumn. Private Harry hasn’t raced since that January win but he has been trialling brilliantly.

VALUE BET: WEST OF SWINDON (Race 8 No.5) was once challenging for Golden Slipper favouritism but he’s out to ridiculous odds of $31 for the big race. The drift is due to the colt being a late scratching from the Pago Pago Stakes last week after he dislodged a shoe. West Of Swindon’s only two runs have been very good seconds in the Golden Gift behind North England and the Silver Slipper won by Beiwacht. Wodeton ran third in the Silver Slipper and he’s the Golden Slipper favourite. West Of Swindon is drawn to get the gun run from barrier four and he’s definitely worth an each way bet at huge odds.

THE WHISPER: AUTUMN GLOW (Race 4 No.3) is another very talented, unbeaten three-year-old resuming. She hasn’t been seen since her easy win in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes last September. Autumn Glow was a long odds-on favourite for the Group 1 Flight Stakes only to be withdrawn on race eve with an injury. In her absence, Lady Shenandoah streaked away with the Flight Stakes and has won another two Group 1 races since. Autumn Glow finally returns to the track in the Darby Munro Stakes and although 1200m is short of her best, she has been kept sharp, is trialling well and is ready to make up for lost time.

MOONEE VALLEY
BEST BET: TOO DARN LIZZIE (Race 7 No.1), owned by Lord Andrew Webber, has had two runs back this autumn for placings in the Angus Armanasco Stakes and Kewney Stakes behind the outstanding filly Treasurethe Moment. Too Darn Lizzie tried to go with Treasurethe Moment in the Kewney but still stuck to her task to finish second, beaten over two lengths. With no Treasurethe Moment in the Alexandra Stakes field, this is Too Darn Lizze’s moment to shine.

NEXT BEST: CHERGUI (Race 2 No.1) was a horror watch for his backers in The Showdown at Caulfield last week. He was hopelessly held up for a run in the straight and when finally clear charged home fop third, beaten a half length. Chergui should have won last Saturday and he has obviously done well during the week with Godolphin backing him up in the Valley Pearl. With even luck, he should win.

VALUE BET: SCHWARZ (Race 9 No.4) scorched around The Valley to easily win the Group 2 Australia Stakes when resuming before finishing at the rear of the field in the Orr Stakes. He was sent back to Sydney where he has since trialled brilliantly twice. If Schwarz can get some control in front in the William Reid Stakes, he will take running down at generous odds of around $8.

THE WHISPER: MYTEMPTATION (Race 11 No.10) is in the closer, race 11, but he will be worth the wait. Promising sprinter who is unbeaten in four starts and resumed with an impressive effort at Flemington where he won with authority. He is up in grade again but down in the weights and he has handled the Valley track previously.
"This is a terrific win."
