TRAINER Tony Gollan says a predicted lack of tempo will give Spiritual Rose’s rivals a headstart but believes she has improved enough to contest for a second straight win.

Spiritual Rose will run in Saturday’s QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1400m) at Aquis Park after securing a breakthrough win at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago.

The three-year-old came from last to win that day and Gollan said she had improved since as she prepares to jump from barrier one.

“She will probably be closer than she was at the Sunshine Coast,” Gollan said.

“I anticipated good speed that day and we just got caught back behind another horse who took us right out of the race.

“The win was only by a small margin but it was better then what it looked. She would have to improve off that.

“I gave her a week out on the treadmill because she ran first up and second-up into that race quite quickly and she is quite an athletic filly.

“I backed off her for a week and she has come back looking quite well.

“Working her Wednesday was really good. It looks like she has improved and she certainly has to improve to win this race.

“My biggest query is it looks like a race that will lack a lot of tempo and some of the favourites in the betting will be up on the speed.

“We are going to be giving them a start and will have to outsprint them.”

Gollan also has All Pluck, Hollaback Girl, Galtero, All Important and Ponytales set to race at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
