SISTER and brother combination Angela and Ryan Plumb have shared in one of the most memorable wins of their racing careers.

The duo joined forces to win the Stuart James Memorial Maiden Handicap (1800m) with four-year-old gelding Barraaj at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

For former Cranbourne-based trainer Angela, the victory was her first since moving back to Queensland from Victoria in November last year.

Barraaj, a son of Iffraaj, is the only horse Angela has started in Queensland so far and his win came after finishes of eighth and ninth at the Gold Coast and Murwillumbah respectively.

Angela said it was a special to share the moment with jockey Ryan as everything begins to fall in place at her new base in the Sunshine State.

“It’s fantastic. I’m originally from Queensland and I’m really enjoying being back up here,” the Gold Coast trainer said.

“I’ve taken on nine stables and I’m really enjoying it. All the hard work is paying off now.”

The win was also witnessed by Angela and Ryan’s parents, Lyle and Janet, grandfather Lyle Sr, their partners, Ryan’s children and family friends.

Janet also holds shares in Barraaj.

Ryan, who has now ridden four winners this month, said it was one of the most cherished wins of his career.

“It’s a great feeling.

“There is no better feeling than riding a winner with your sister, especially because all of our friends own it,” Plumb said.
