THE roots of Winx’s racing dominance stem from the Gold Coast and now her stablemate Sexy Eyes will try to do the same.
Sexy Eyes is among the first of trainer Chris Waller’s Sydney-based team to be sent to Queensland this year in search of winter carnival success.
The five-year-old, who races in the same blue and white colours as Winx and shares one of the same owners in Peter Tighe, arrived with five wins to her name last Thursday and has already added to it, winning the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) in Toowoomba last weekend.
Winx famously began her run of 32 straight wins by winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas in 2015 while being housed at a Gold Coast stable.
Waller’s Gold Coast foreman Paul Shailer said Sexy Eyes boasted the same calm nature as Winx and the stable would chase another Listed race for the mare over the carnival.
“She won the Weetwood fresh up and she looks like she is in for a pretty good preparation,” Shailer said.
“She is a really good prospect. She is carrying solid form and will be a good chance in good races.

“She is a quiet horse, easy to do anything with and a pleasure in the yard.”
Shailer said he and the whole Waller team would be a bundle of nerves when Winx raced for the final time in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes today at Royal Randwick.
