Pink Ribbon Cup Day receives huge support from new sponsors

Racing has become a shared passion for 2K Thoroughbreds part-owner Elise Cincotta and her grandmother Yvonne Lowry but cancer nearly stopped that from happening. Cincotta opens up about why she wanted to get involved in the 2019 Pink Ribbon Cup Day.

RACING has become a shared passion for 2K Thoroughbreds part-owner Elise Cincotta and her grandmother Yvonne Lowry.

But the added bond they share because of it may never have happened without the research conducted into breast cancer.

It’s why Cincotta had no hesitations in coming on board as a sponsor the Gold Coast Turf Club’s annual Pink Ribbon Cup Day, to be held on September 21, along with Sky racing.

Cincotta said Lowry was given the ‘all clear’ in 2011 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 and undergoing a mastectomy.

“Both Nanna and I will be there on the Pink Ribbon Cup Day,” Cincotta said.

“We are really looking forward to it. The fact that the day involves both horse racing and fundraising for breast cancer research is the perfect match for me.

“Nanna has also become involved in thoroughbred racing recently and she absolutely loves it. “It has opened up a whole new passion in her life.”

Yvonne is part of an all-women’s owners’ group of boom Magic Millions youngster Champagne Jet. The filly was purchased for $22,000 and has so far earned its 19 owners about $160,000 and taken them on an amazing ride, which included being a starter in this year’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“Nan has found a passion for horse racing. She has met some amazing people and has a whole new lease on life,” Cincotta said.

Over 11 years the Pink Ribbon Cup race day has raised $538,337 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Created by breast cancer survivor Robyn Cameron, the race day has become Australia’s largest community fundraising event for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Organisers hope the 2019 event eclipses last year’s figure of $116,000 with this year’s target $120,000.
