PETER Snowden has kept an ace up his sleeve for weeks but is finally set to play his hand in this Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.
Sydney trainer Snowden has always believed Artistry would be a better horse with winkers but has held off making the gear change until now.
“I’m going to add winkers to her gear on Saturday and she has a bit of a look at other horses and she has been doing it for a while,” Snowden said.
“The other day in the Dane Ripper she was held up for a little while and when she was inside horses she was a bit reluctant to let go but once she got to the outside she found a fair bit quickly.
“I’m just hoping a set of winkers will help her focus no matter where she is in the field.
“She has been working well in them and I have been going to put them on for a while.”
Artistry is rated a $21 Tiara chance with UBET but Snowden feels she is a genuine winning hope following her eye-catching second to Cradle Me in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) on June 11.
“Her Dane Ripper run was good and her Scone run before that was enormous and she was five wide throughout that day and got beat less than two lengths,” Snowden said.
“She has had no luck with barriers this preparation and if she draws well then she can settle in the first five or six and if she can get that luck in running early then I know she will be strong late.”
A Group 1 win would be a fitting end to a strong Queensland carnival for Peter And Paul Snowden.
The Sydney stable lead the UBET Super Six Trainers’ Challenge by five points from Chris Waller heading into the final day of the competition and Snowden is hoping they can hold on.
“We’re running out of ammo but we have three nice hopes in on Saturday and what will be, will be,” he said.
The Snowdens will also saddle up Pajaro in the Listed 1830m Handicap and That’s A Good Idea in the Group 3 W.J Healy Stakes (1200m).
“Pajaro is going really well and going to the 1800m is a plus,” Snowden said.
“That’s A Good Idea comes off a strong win on an unsuitable track and he carried 62kg and won.
“He beat some handy horses in the process and he is in good order.”
