GOLD Coast councillors today are poised to approve night racing at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

The development application to be considered by the council planning committee will see the Turf Club host night racing on Friday nights.

Fifty pole lights will be required with some within 100m of dwellings on Crombie Avenue.

The recommendations from officers include an acoustic barrier to limit the impacts on residents.

The Turf Club needs the lights to meet broadcasting standards for television.

Officers recommended approval but their conditions included a maximum of two races between 10pm and 11pm.

There are no objections to the application.

Councillors are about to debate the proposal.

The conditions set out by officers include turning off the lights at 11pm.
