BEAUDESERT trainer Ben Ahrens was one of few trainers praying for rain ahead of Saturday’s race meeting on the Gold Coast.
That’s because his mudlark Lucky Fix is a proven performer in heavy conditions and will thrive with in the conditions presented for the QTIS Three-Years-Old Class 1 Plate (900m) at Aquis Park.
The gelding won its last race on a heavy track, a maiden at Gold Coast on May 22, and his only other run in the same conditions resulted in a fourth at Doomben a month earlier.
Lucky Fix is coming off a second-place finish over 1100m at Gatton last week and has recovered nicely enough to give Gold Coast a nudge at $5.

“He will go around provided it goes ahead, provided the meeting goes ahead,” Ahrens said.
“He seems to be in good shape, he pulled up well from his run at Gatton and we have tried to freshen him up as quickly as we can given he is on a quick back up.
“We are happy with him anyway and he should run well.”
Ahrens said he nominated Lucky Fix for the meeting hoping the rain would come.
“W were a bit worried at Gatton the other day. It was quite firm there and we thought it might not suit him but he ran well there as well,” Ahrens said.
“But he does seem to prefer those softer tracks. He tends to feel his feet a bit. He pulls up a lot better after his run on a soft surface.
“That’s the only reason we nominated him this week hoping to get another soft track and it seems to have worked out that way.”
Ahrens said he was trying to take advantage of the QTIS money on offer before it dries up when Lucky Fix turns four after July.
“He has just taken a while to put things together. Now he is doing that he is becoming quite consistent so we will try and get some QTIS money,” Ahrens said.
“I doubt we will be heading off to town this prep but we will just try and keep him in provincials getting QTIS money and might raise our sights next prep.”
