TRAINER Michael Costa says Kickstart My Heart can surprise the field to win his third race with his stable on the Gold Coast today.

The four-year-old gelding is coming off a sixth-place finish in a Class 3 over 1800m a fortnight ago but has been brought back to contest the Sky Racing Handicap Class 2 (1400m).

Kickstart My Heart’s results have fluctuated over his past four runs with two wins being divided by fifth and sixth place finishes.

Costa said Kickstart My Heart’s form has remained strong throughout but some poor luck in his two bad starts meant he went into today’s race under the radar.

“It is probably the hardest field he has met so the marker could find him a little over at the odds,” Costa said.

The Gold Coast trainer predicted Kickstart My Heart to get rolling forward from barrier seven.

“He will hopefully be more forward in this run,” Costa said.

“In two runs this prep he has been trapped away and hasn’t been able to run home.

“It is a bit of a harder race but if he can be more positive and run the times he has run in previous races he will hopefully run a top four.

”The jockeys have given up soft leads and he has been trapped away and hasn’t been able to get out.

“He can’t sit and sprint. All of the races he has won he has got rolling at the right time. Coming from the 800m and 600m he has to have his own way and not be held up.

“We have freshened him up back to the 1400m and the tactics will be to have him rolling when he needs to get going.”

Kickstart My Heart will drop a kilogram from his last two races to take 56.5kg into today’s run while $3.40 favourite Temujin’s Moon will carry 55.5kg for trainer Greg Cornish.
