ONE of the most powerful syndicates of racing women was yesterday introduced to the colt they bought for $460,000 at the Magic Millions last year.
Katie Page, co-owner of the Magic Millions, put together the syndicate with the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips, celebrity chef Donna Hay, Coolmore stud’s Sophie Magnier, ad man John Singleton’s partner Venessa Merrin and Segenhoe Stud’s Suzanne Grosvenor.
The colt was sired by the legendary Fastnet Rock out of dam The Hamptons and is called Meadow Lane. He is being trained by Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Gai Waterhouse.

“There is a great group of women involved in him,” said Ms Waterhouse.
“He is a lovely horse and will be better as a three-year-old than a two-year-old.”
Ms Page said: “He did not make the two-year-old race this year so we will be hoping for the three-year-old race next year.
“More important was the shared bond of a group of friends getting involved in a horse together. “Gerry and I are looking at a global initiative for women in racing and here we have women from Australia, Ireland, the UK and USA.”
Ms Phillips, patron of Magic Millions racing women, said: “It is great to be part of something like this which gets women more involved in racing.”
Chef Ms Hay said: “He is my first horse. I used to ride but have not been involved with horses for years.”
Ms Merrin added: “I really love being involved in this. It is all new for me and very exciting. I cannot wait to see him racing.”
