AQUIS Farm has enjoyed strong interest in its first Magic Millions sale, selling the first of its six available horses to racing royalty.
The colt, sired by Pierro, sold to Matt Cumani for $230,000 – a cool $60,000 more than the farm paid for it in June.
Breeding and yearling preparation manager Sarah Gardiner said the farm’s five colts and one filly were bought as weanlings six months ago and the business was looking to buy at least as many horses as it sold at the sales.

“It might even out, we’ve bought one so far today – there were a lot more on the list but you never know how the day pans out,” she said.
“We’re very happy with our draft.
“They’ve come up very nicely and we have had a lot of people through for views and inspections over the past couple of days.
“We’re lucky we’ve got well-bred stock so people come looking for us.”
The company sold a second lot yesterday for $120,000.
“A lot of feed goes into a weanling, and handling,” Ms Gardiner said.
“In June they’re quite immature, so they need a lot of handling and hand walking.”
Aquis had bought nine horses for a total of $1.025 million by close of sales yesterday.
The Aquis Farm thoroughbred breeding and racing operation at Canungra, previously owned by Nathan Tinkler, has undergone a major overhaul since it was acquired in May by Mr Fung.
The billionaire is planning to build it into a major player in the industry, with particularly strong links to the Hong Kong racing scene.
Mr Fung took possession in May with many of the facilities rundown and in urgent need of refurbishment.
After an investment program, Mr Fung secured leading Brisbane trainer Bryan Guy as trainer and now has about 80 horses at the facility.
