Venkaya was riding the Selina Leef-trained Debonair Des toward the barriers for Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Plate (1200m) at Aquis Park when the seven-year-old gelding reared up and threw the hoop off.

Gold Coast Turf Club CEO Steve Lines couldn’t confirm Venkaya’s injuries but said he wasn’t in good shape.

“He is not in a good way,” Lines said.

Jockey Vishan Venkaya (fourth from the right) has been injured at the Gold Coast Turf Club.

“He was on his way to the gates when the horse started playing up and tipped him over. They loaded him up in the ambulance as safe as they could and we have let his family know.”
