GOLD Coast horse trainer Toby Edmonds says he was trying to stop someone getting killed when he decided to stand in front of a runaway horse who trampled him.
Edmonds looks to have avoided injury after being knocked out on Monday when a horse ran over the top of him.
The leading trainer was knocked unconscious but avoided any fractures, instead left with stitches in the back of his head and a “sore bum and ribs”.

Speaking on RadioTAB on Tuesday morning from Gold Coast University Hospital, Edmonds revealed the reason why he made the brave decision to stand in front of the horse.
“It was a horse going down past my tie-up stalls and I just tried to stop it,” Edmonds said.
“I thought it was going to stop. The reason why I did it was the next thing it would be out on the road and I thought someone might get killed out there.
“When I realised it wasn’t going to stop I stepped out of the road of it and it stepped with me and knocked me over.”
Edmonds is still unsure how long he was unconscious for.
“I remember before and after it but I don’t quite remember laying there (on the ground). I must have hit the ground pretty hard.”
Team Edmonds have had 34 winners this season including five from their past 10 runners since last Wednesday.
Edmonds said he was due to have further scans on Tuesday and hoped to be out of hospital by Wednesday.
