TRAINER Lloyd Kennewell says Viddora will be hard to beat in the Magic Millions Sprint if the mare gets a clean jump and is given the space she needs to work.
The South Australian trainer said a clean start was critical for Viddora ($8), who has struggled to get going in some races but has undoubted class.
“I think she is going to run a cracking race,” Kennewell said of the daughter of I Am Invincible. “She is a good quality mare and she has had a really good preparation with a little bit of bad luck.
“She is just a horse that can jump away tardily – she gets away slightly slow. If she jumps cleanly she can put herself in a really handy position and that makes it a lot easier.
“It’s just a matter of having a clear passage. They usually scatter a little here on the Gold Coast on the turns so if she can get a nice run through she will be hard to beat.”
Kennewell became convinced of Viddora’s Magic Millions credentials when she won the Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville last July.
But some tough barrier draws and tight positions in the field have meant Viddora’s best since has been two seconds.
Kennewell is no stranger to the Magic Millions meeting, having won the 3YO Guineas with Deiheros in 2015.
Another of his horses Baligari will run in today’s Magic Millions Cup after finishing third to Lucky Hussler in the same race last year.
“We have had quite a bit of luck up here and we target these races for our horses,” Kennewell said.
