GOLD Coast trainer Bryan Guy will chase what would be the highest earning win of Felino Bel’s career after celebrating the mare’s first victory in over a year.
Jockey Dan Griffin took the lead on the final turn on the four-year-old of Saturday’s Class 5 Plate (1300m) and couldn’t be reached by rivals at the Gold Coast on the heavy track.
It was the first win of Felino Bel’s preparation and follows two thirds and a second.
“It was a good run because we didn’t know if she would handle the really heavy track,” Guy said.

“Dan rode her perfectly. She was due for a win. She was running a lot of seconds and thirds the last few runs so it was nice to see her win.
“She has just been running into one who was too good every time. But (Saturday) was the right race for her.”
Guy sent Felino Bel to the race to prepare her for a crack at the Fillies and Mares No Metro Wins Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on July 13, a race that carries $42,700 for the winner.

“I wanted to give her a run for that race in a fortnight’s time. That is my main thing,” Guy said.
“She will come down in weight, probably to about 54kg. It’s a nice race and she races well in town.
“She has put up some good runs in there, coming from last to run fourth in the same sort of races so it might be a good one for her.”
