FORM expert Chris Nelson has found some value for punters in his best bets for the Gold Coast and Doomben this weekend.

BEST BET

SIENNA ROSE $2.90

DOOMBEN

Race 1 No.3

More Than Ready filly from the O’Dea stable who really found the line on debut here a fortnight back behind the hugely impressive Hopes Eternal. She’s going to improve leaps and bounds with that run under her belt. From a good draw tomorrow, Matt McGillivray will be looking to park a lot closer to the lead. If there are no smokies among the unraced brigade she’ll be winning.

BEST VALUE

DON’T TELL MAMA $11

DOOMBEN

Race 8 No.1

Double-figure odds are available for this Toowoomba-trained mare who resumes tomorrow. That seems very generous considering her terrific first-up record. She’s been strong winning fresh at the beginning of her past two campaigns and comes up with a perfect gate here. She can be smothered away until called upon, when required, in the straight. Great each-way value.

TRIAL TIP

SONIC BLOOM $3

GOLD COAST

Race 2 No.6

In a race with a few other recent well-performed trial performers, I’m giving this filly the nod. She won and was placed in her lead-up trials (both untouched) before resuming here recently. In a race run to suit the leader/winner, she hit the line well and will no doubt strip fitter for it.

HAT-TRICK BECKONS

VALFIERNO $6

DOOMBEN

Race 2 No.2

Lightly raced gelding from the Kendrick yard who looked the goods clocking slick time in a first-up win at the Sunshine Coast. He then came here to score in midweek grade last time out, sprinting away from his rivals on a heavy surface. With an inside draw tomorrow, he’ll drop into the box seat run and will only need clear running in the straight to figure in the finish.

READY TO WIN

ZAP $4.60

GOLD COAST

Race 5 No.6

Sunshine Coast visitor who simply gave away too much start at Ipswich last time out when he hit the line strongly late over the 1350m trip.

It is interesting to note he was the only runner to break 35 seconds for the last 600m of the race. Drawn the inside tomorrow, he’ll park a lot closer in the run and with a similar finishing burst will prove hard to hold out.

BACK IN GRADE

ARMET $11

GOLD COAST

Race 7 No.3

Past three starts have been good efforts here on his home track. He was beaten under a length twice in this grade before going up to Class 3 level last time out. He sat wide on a good speed behind the smart Freddie Fox Trot and boxed on well right to the line. He’s back to his right grade and has reasonable draw.
