TRAINER Ben Currie says he will let unbeaten filly Crusher dictate their next move after displaying further improvement to win at the Gold Coast.
Crusher ($1.90) led the field alongside rival Sista Act ($6) before edging in front of her only real challenger to win the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (900m) by a half-length.
The win was the Snitzel filly’s second from as many starts after she won by six lengths on debut in a 1000m race at her home track in Toowoomba on December 31.
Currie was impressed more by yesterday’s win that included a faster last 600m time of 33.48 seconds.
“I was pretty happy with the run,” Currie said.
“We brought her here and had a little bit in the tank going forward fitness-wise and they ran pretty good times. She jumped well so you can’t ask too much more.
“She is unbeaten now which is always a good sign.
“We will take her home and see how she pulls up and see if there is something better over the (winter) carnival.
“She is a tough filly. It got a little tight at the end and she was probably a bit tired.
“It was the first time away from home but she still got the job done and that’s what good horses do – win under pressure.”
Currie said only time would tell where he placed her next.
“I’d like to keep her at the sprints … will see how she pulls up and find the next 1000m race,” he said.
