CORSINI has followed up a preparation that included a meeting with 2019 Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare by producing the best results of her career.
The mare won Saturday’s Benchmark 65 Handicap (2200m) at Gold Coast with jockey Les Tilley riding her quiet at the back of the field before coming wide down the straight to win by a length-and-a-half.
“She had barrier two so I thought she would be one our and one back but the jockey was patient and felt like she was going to win it from a long way out,” Beaudesert trainer Matthew Dunn said.
“She never got stressed and pulled the trigger with about 500m to go.”
Corsini has now won two races and finished second twice from seven runs in what is a career-best preparation to date.
Dunn also believes there are more wins to come before the five-year-old goes for a spell.
“She has always shown us a fair bit of ability but I think last prep we had our eyes set pretty high,” Dunn said.
“She raced in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup against Vow And Declare but she was just three to five lengths shy of being a really good Saturday horse.
“This prep we gave her one race (at Doomben) a couple starts ago in Benchmarch 80 and she actually led that day but overrated a little bit.
“After that race her rating was still quite low so we dropped her back in grade and stuck to those races and she has been going really well.
“She is a horse who gives 100 per cent every time she goes around.
“She is only a little horse and a lot of the top stayers are big with long strides who can cover a lot more ground.
“The only reason she goes well is because of her will to win.”
