BEST BET

EAGLE FARM
Race 5 No.9
Brian Smith-trained galloper on his way to a Queensland Derby start in a fortnight. His effort to beat all bar the winner in the Rough Habit Plate at Doomben two weeks ago was terrific after giving that horse a decent start from the outset. Keep in mind he won his previous run on the track by more than seven lengths with ease. Tomorrow could be the start of a big fortnight for him.
BEST VALUE
COL ‘N’ LIL $14
EAGLE FARM
Race 2 No.8
It’s well worth a “throw at the stumps” tomorrow. In no way is she the best horse in this race but things may well pan out in her favour. She’s an on-pacer who will tag the leader, likely to be Religify, throughout. That horse doesn’t like soft ground and is likely to stop in the straight. With a cosy run, the backmarkers may find it tough to run Col ‘n’ Lil down.

JEST EXCEL $4.40
GOLD COAST
Race 4 No.8
Tony Gollan-trained filly who, although having just two starts, has always had wraps on her. She easily won a recent Doomben trial when leading clearly throughout to score without any pressure being applied – and she clocked slick time wearing heavy work shoes.
WORTH A NIBBLE
ZAMBEZI WARRIOR $12
EAGLE FARM
Race 4 No.13
Kiwi visitor who represents good value tomorrow at better than each-way odds. Although fourth behind Stampede – who is the favourite for this race – at Doomben a fortnight back, he should definitely have wound up closer. He was held up for a run early in the straight but hit the line solidly when clear. He will appreciate the rise in distance from 2000m to 2200m tomorrow.
LUCKLESS LAST RUN (1)
DOMINANT CROWN $15
GOLD COAST
Race 10 No.11
A Sunshine Coast winner two starts back, he looked unlucky not to make it two straight on the same track at his last start. Cluttered away on the fence with nowhere to go for most of the straight, he finally saw daylight late and closed off strongly to beat all bar the winner. Steps up from 1000m to 1200m tomorrow and although not ideally drawn, is well worth something each-way.
LUCKLESS LAST RUN (2)
TESSERA $6.50
EAGLE FARM
Race 8 No.8
Godolphin-trained galloper who just had no luck gaining a clear run until all too late in the Gold Coast Guineas three weeks ago. Once into the open he flashed at the leaders only to miss by a small margin. He’s up to 1400m tomorrow and meets a strong bunch of three-year-olds but on his southern form is up to the challenge.
