TRAINER Leon Phillips believes he has finally come out the other side after battling a virus that swept through his stable.

Phillips has celebrated a win with Mishani Blossom who won the QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate (1300m) on Thursday at Beaudesert.

“She ran a good race. I thought she ran really nicely,” Phillips said.

“She is an improving filly all the time. It’s exciting. It was a fairly weak maiden for her but it’s the next step up for her. We will just go slow and work our way up the ranks now.

“We will probably give her a freshen over the next week or so then look around.”

The Englishmen began his Australian training operation with the help of owner and breeder Mike Crooks but had a slow start due to a virus that affected his horses.

“My first six or seven horses that ran I was left scratching my head a bit because I thought something wasn’t quite right,” Phillips said.

“I thought the horses I’m working with are better than what they are showing me on the track.

“We got a virus in the yard. I think we are on the other side of it now. The last three horses I have run now have won or got second and fourth.

“I have got 20 two-year-olds I’m training at the moment. Half of them were bred by Mike and half were bought so it’s an exciting time.”
