All-female syndicate say Global Glamour can challenge Winning Rupert for 3YO Guineas
A GROUP of 40 women will be hoping to lift Global Glamour to victory on Saturday as the filly prepares to challenge clear frontrunner Winning Rupert for victory in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

A GROUP of 40 women hope to lift Global Glamour to victory tomorrow when the filly takes on the unbeaten Winning Rupert in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
The $6.50 chance is owned by the all-female It’s All About the Girls syndicate with members hailing from seven countries.
About thirty-five of the women will be at the Gold Coast track, including Elaine Lawlor, who created the syndicate with
US-based Anna Seitz. Lawlor said they would need to lend Global Glamour all their voices during the final stages but she was confident she could overcome a wide barrier and upset the unbeaten Sydney colt.
“Winning Rupert is a fantastic horse,” Lawlor said.
“Global Glamour is a double Group 1 winner but Winning Rupert is coming into the race incredibly fit.
“We are there to take him on and will do our best. I think she can do it.
“But she is coming back from a lay-off … and our barrier is not the best but it’s a horse race and we will be there to win.”
Lawlor said it was always the syndicate’s goal to get Global Glamour to the Magic Millions and after missing out on the 2YO Classic last year they were glad to be able to challenge for the 3YO Guineas.
“We would have loved to get her to the 2YO race but it just didn’t work out that way so to be able to come back and race in the 3YO Guineas is fantastic,” she said.
Lawlor, who divides her time between Ireland and Australia, and Seitz, a member of the international sales company Fasig-Tipton, had wanted to take advantage of the Magic Millions Racing Women’s Bonus of $500,000 on offer to the first four all-female owned horses to finish in the 2YO Classic last year.
They raised $200,000 thanks to contributions of $5000 from each owner and were outbid on multiple horses before buying Global Glamour for $65,000 at the 2015 yearling sales.
The money left over meant training fees were already taken care of.
The owners are scattered across Ireland, England, France, America, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
Lawlor was standing at the famous Arc de Triomphe monument in Paris when Global Glamour won the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in Sydney in October.
She said she became convinced of the three-year-old’s Magic Millions credentials when the filly won her second Group 1, the Thousand Guineas, a week later at Caulfield.
“I thought she must be some filly or some machine to win two Group 1 races within seven days,” Lawlor said.
“When she won the Caulfield Guineas after breaking from the gate, and running in the opposite direction to what she has done her whole life, and to lead all the way – I thought that was a fantastic performance.”
