Just days after the Surf Life Saving State Championships have finished, the Youth Championships have been forced to move to the same location, North Kirra.

Last week Queensland SLS relocated the open’s championships to North Kirra due to severely poor conditions.

Just seven days later, they have moved the Youth Championships from Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park to North Kirra due to poor conditions and forecasted swell and win.

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, SLS Queensland said; “In accordance with our contingency plans and safety and emergency framework, event organisers have assessed the current conditions as well as the long range forecasts for Burleigh.

“And determined that all water events and beach events will be moved to North Kirra SLSC starting Friday 22 March.

“As with all events, the start of competition is contingent upon daily water safety risk assessments.”

The 1km and 2km Beach Run events will be held on Thursday March 21 at Burleigh Heads Mowbray SLSC.

“Event Organisers are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to providing the most accurate information to competitors, officials and spectators as soon as it is available,” the statement said.

Just two days out from the opening of the 2024 Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships, the Queensland SLS have had to change location due to dramatic forecasting

Meant to be held at Broadbeach, the event has been moved to North Kirra after it was confirmed that poor conditions and forecasted swell and wind would be too dangerous for the event to take place.

In accordance to Queensland SLS contingency plans and safety, event organisers assessed the current conditions as well as the long range forecasts at Broadbeach.

They came to the conclusion all water events and distance beach events will be moved to North Kirra SLSC starting on Friday March 15.

All beach sprint and beach flags events will remain at Kurrawa SLSC.

The event is due to kick off on Friday at 8am.

There is no change to the 2024 Youth Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships at this stage.
