Olympic gold medalist and former Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder was arrested on Saturday as part of a prostitution sting.
The 29-year-old was one of 16 men who were charged during a sting operation on Columbus’ North Side conducted by Columbus police, The New York Post reports.
According to Columbus police sergeant Joe Albert, the department posted ads for escort services to the internet in an attempt to bust those looking to engage in prostitution.
Snyder allegedly called and texted police around 8.15pm on Saturday upon seeing the online ads and later arrived at a nearby hotel to meet up for what he thought was a legitimate escort service.
When he arrived, cops say he paid the undercover officer in cash and asked for oral sex before he was then arrested for engaging in prostitution. He was released from the scene.
In his career wrestling for the Buckeyes, Snyder won three consecutive NCAA heavyweight championships from 2016-18. In 2015, he was a part of Ohio State’s team national title win.
He was inducted into the university’s athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
Also in his time at Ohio State, Snyder competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games where he became the youngest American wrestler to ever win gold. He was 20 years old.
He also competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and finished with the silver medal.
In his most recent Olympic performance, he finished fourth in the 2024 Paris Games.
Snyder is being summoned to appear in court on May 19.
