The shock snub of star Hockeyroo Rosie Malone from the Paris Olympics squad has been confirmed after her last-ditch appeal was dismissed.
Malone, 26, had launched an appeal in hope of her having her omission overturned after she was left out of a squad that will be named on July 1.
The revelations sent shockwaves throughout the team given Malone is not only fully fit but is the only striker who hasn’t been seriously injured this year.
The Gold Coaster has featured in all but one of Australia’s international games this year and at the end of 2023 was named among just five finalists for the International Hockey Federation’s player of the year award.
Malone also boasts one of the country’s best hockey resumes, having been part of Australia’s 2022 Commonwealth Games team that won silver before claiming bronze at the World Cup, her second appearance at the global event, that same year.
She was part of the 2021 Olympic Games team, 2019 Oceania Cup side, 2018 gold medal-winning Champions Trophy squad and has been a regular of the FIH Pro League since 2019.
Hockey Australia confirmed in a statement the team would be announced publicly on Monday.
“We’re in the process of nominating the teams for the Olympic Games to the Australian Olympic Committee by this Friday, June 28, as per the nomination policy.
“We’re respecting all of our players’ confidentiality during this nerve-wracking time and keeping their well-being in mind. The AOC will then announce the teams in due course, with the date set for Monday, July 1.”
