Ariarne Titmus v Mollie O’Callaghan, Harry Garside, Opals headline Australians in action on day three of Paris Olympics

Teammates Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan will become rivals when they go head to head in the pool on another big day — check out the Aussies in action on day three of the Paris Olympics.

After another golden moment for the green and gold thanks to Jess Fox, there are plenty more medals on offer for Australia on day three of the Paris Olympics.

Several Australian teams will look to continue their winning ways, in particular the women’s rugby sevens side who should book their place in the semi-finals. In the pool Ariarne Titmus and Mollie O’Callaghan are set to battle it out in the 200m freestyle.

There are also gold medals up for grabs in the diving, equestrian, skateboarding and men’s canoe slalom as Australia looks to add to its growing medal tally.

OPALS

The Opals get their gold-medal campaign underway on Monday as they look to start with a flurry against Nigeria.

The Aussies haven’t won a medal since 2012, which was also the last time that Lauren Jackson played at the Games. The GOAT has returned in 2024 and all eyes will be on her to see if she can inspire the Opals back to the podium.

This is a star-studded Australian team heavily favoured to be among the medals, so look for them to make a strong start in their group to build some momentum.

HARRY GARSIDE

Garside made history in Tokyo when he claimed a bronze medal, Australia’s first medal in boxing in more than three decades, but he’s out for better three years later.

His first fight is against Hungary’s Richard Kovacs, and he’s also one of three Australians in the ring on Monday.

Can Garside continue his impressive Olympic form? The man who relishes being uncomfortable will be looking to put his opponent under pressure from the first bell.

TRISTAN CARTER

The rapids have already sparked a gold rush for Australia after Jess Fox’s heroics, but Tristan Carter will be searching for a podium finish of his own on Monday.

Carter is in the semi-final, and then hopefully the final, of the men’s canoe singles. He had the 12th-best time in the heats and will need a massive improvement if he wants to get near the top three.

But you can’t count anything out on the water, and the Aussies already have a taste of gold.

CASSIEL ROUSSEAU AND DOMONIC BEDGGOOD

Rousseau and Bedggood have both been in scintillating form since the last Olympics and will join forces to go for gold in the 10-metre synchronised.

It’s Bedggood’s Olympic return after he narrowly missed out on Tokyo, while Rousseau will be looking to add to his 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 World Championship gold medals.

After Australia’s early heartache off the boards on day one, can the pair help the diving team bounce back?

SHANE O’NEILL

Shane O’Neill will finally get his Olympics underway after weather delayed the men’s street event by 48 hours.

O’Neill is a previous world skateboarding champion and won gold at the 2022 X Games in Japan.

He finished 16th in the park event at the Tokyo Olympics, but will be looking to qualify for the final at a minimum three years later.

MOLLIE O’CALLAGHAN AND ARIARNE TITMUS

This race is as close to guaranteed gold as the Aussies will get in Paris.

O’Callaghan and Titmus lit up the Aussie trials when they both broke the 200m freestyle world record. However, it was Titmus who got the chocolates that day and she will be looking to add to her gold medal collection after taking out the 400m free on Saturday.

But Mollie O is never to be discounted and will have a point to prove that she can get one up over her good mate and training partner.

MAX GIULIANI

Giuliani’s epic rise up the swimming ranks has continued in Paris after he qualified for the 200m freestyle final at his debut Olympics.

He qualified fifth-fastest for the final in a time of 1:45.37, and although it was only the semi-finals, if he can produce a swim close to his PB it would certainly place him near the medals.

The 21-year-old is certainly one to watch in the future on the Aussie swimming team, but he’s ready to announce himself to the world in a star-studded final that includes David Popovici and Duncan Scott.
