Women’s NSW Blues stars cleared of injury concerns ahead of Origin II

NSW are set to be full strength for State of Origin II next Thursday night as they prepare to claim the shield for the first time in three years.

NSW coach John Strange is expected to name an unchanged side for State of Origin II next Thursday night with champion centre Jess Sergis cleared of a serious ankle injury.

The Sydney Roosters star was caught in an awkward tackle in Thursday night’s record win over Queensland at Suncorp Stadium, but managed to play out the rest of the game in a positive sign for the Blues.

She was spotted icing her right ankle in the sheds after the 32-12 win but has since been cleared of any major damage ahead of game two at Allianz Stadium next week.

Blues veteran Kezie Apps is also expected to be fit after finishing Thursday night’s win under an injury cloud.

The Wests Tigers captain and star back-rower was icing an elbow on the sidelines at the end of the game but is set to be available for selection.

With teams set to be named on Wednesday it shapes as a huge boost for the Blues after last year’s shock series loss, their second in a row.

It shapes as a deja vu situation after NSW stunned with a big win at Suncorp Stadium in game one, only to lose back-to-back games in Newcastle and Townsville in 2024.

The Blues are desperate to avenge the disappointment with a win at home next Thursday night in front of what’s expected to be another impressive crowd.

It’s the first women’s State of Origin game in Sydney since game one of 2023, an 18-10 loss for NSW at CommBank Stadium.

The NRL has already noted an uptick in sales after game one, which broke broadcast records as well as setting a new benchmark for live crowds for the women’s game.

It’s a quick turn around with teams to go back into camp later this week before next week’s clash, before game three in Newcastle on May 29.
