Carl Webb is the strongest man in Broncos history. Now the Broncos icon’s extraordinary feats of strength will live on at the club forever.

He is the strongest man in Broncos history.

Now the power and strength of Carl Webb will endure eternally at Brisbane after the Broncos officially paid tribute to the late Queensland Origin legend at their Red Hill headquarters on Wednesday.

The Broncos have unveiled ‘The Carl Webb Strength Leaderboard’ overlooking their gymnasium, five weeks after the NRL great died, aged 42, following a four-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters met with his family members, including children Hunter and Brooklyn, as he perused the leaderboard that will stand as a permanent reminder of Webb’s Broncos legacy.

It is only fitting Brisbane’s strength leaderboard should be named after Webb for he still holds two club records in the bench press (180kg) and back squats (252.5kg) - marks unlikely to ever be beaten.

The first XXXX derby this year between the Broncos and Cowboys on Good Friday will also be dedicated to the Carl Webb Foundation.

Walters was Webb’s captain during Brisbane’s premiership win in 2000 and more than two decades later, the now Broncos coach is proud that ‘Charlie’ will inspire the club’s new generation.

“This is a wonderful touch,” Walters said of the Carl Webb Strength Leaderboard.

“I’m really pleased for Carl and his family that his legacy will always live on here at the Broncos.

“Carl was very strong in the gym and on the football field, but most importantly he was a good person and a great character.

“His personality was great for any team. He was a very selfless person, he always put the team first, and he was a very good player who played for Queensland, Australia and many games for the Broncos and Cowboys.

“With this sign, he will be up here in the gym, remembered forever at the Broncos.”

Carl Webb Foundation co-founder Deanna Keating was honoured by the Broncos’ tribute.

“The Broncos meant everything to Carl,” he said.

“He was here when the leaderboard first went up early last year, and he’d have the biggest smile on his face if he was here to see this now.

“The support has been incredible, and to have Hunter and Dakota here too – it means more than you know.

“He was one of the strongest there was, right to the end and there’s no more fitting tribute.

“We’ve achieved a lot through the Foundation to help others living with MND but we still have so much more we want to do, and it’s wonderful that the Broncos will continue to be a big part of that.”
