TITANS teenager Tyronne Roberts-Davis has bolted into calculations for an NRL debut against the Knights.

Winger William Zillman sat out Wednesday’s training session after pulling up sore from last Saturday’s season-opening loss to the Roosters.

Roberts-Davis, a cousin of Broncos speedster James Roberts, is the only fit outside back available in the Gold Coast’s top squad after Nathan Davis walked out on the club last week.

Roberts-Davis, 19, has scintillating speed and showcased it during an NRL trial in the pre-season where he set up a 105m try from his own in-goal.

Coach Neil Henry was not expecting to blood him until later in the season, but could be forced to throw him into Saturday’s clash in Newcastle.

Another option could be shifting Konrad Hurrell to the left wing alongside Dan Sarginson and using Chris McQueen at centre.

Regardless of which way Henry goes, the Titans have to start better than they did against the Roosters.

Gold Coast trailed Sydney 28-0 at halftime, cruelling any chance of a win to start the season.

A fired-up Henry delivered a halftime spray that kicked the Titans into gear but it was too late to salvage a victory.

“We started slow last week, we can’t sugar coat that,” co-captain Ryan James said.

“We started horrendous and got blown up at halftime. We came out and played some half-decent footy.

“If we can start like we started the second half last week it will be good for us.

“We know what we can do. It was great to start building on those combinations.

“You can’t start that slow against a team like that. We’re going to have to go out and play our best footy against Newcastle.”

The Knights showed they could be a different proposition in 2017 after pushing the Warriors in New Zealand.

Newcastle only won one match last season, but McQueen is not expecting Saturday’s game to be a walk in the park.

“You can tell after one game they’ve ripped in and done some hard work over the break,” he said. “To be so competitive against New Zealand over there is always a tough thing to do. They are a different side this year.”

Titans co-captain Kevin Proctor is expected to recover from a shoulder injury in time to face the Knights.
