ANOTHER week, another halves combination.
That’s the predicament Gold Coast must overcome if they are to upset Canterbury at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
The Titans will field their fourth playmaking partnership in as many weeks after halfback Ashley Taylor was ruled out on Friday.
Taylor was admitted to hospital with stomach cramps on Wednesday. He was discharged later that day with doctors stumped as to what the problem was.
The rookie No.7 was too tender to train properly on Friday which will see Cameron Cullen play his second NRL game and his first alongside Tyrone Roberts.
The Titans are on a three-game losing streak and it is no coincidence they have had a different halves combination in all of those games.
Taylor and veteran Greg Bird combined against Brisbane (24-16), Cullen and Taylor against Cronulla (25-20) and Taylor and Roberts were together in last weekend’s 19-14 loss to the Dragons.
Coach Neil Henry said it was not an ideal scenario but Cullen was prepared for the call-up.
“He’s trained there and I’m thinking he’s going to play,” Henry said.
“We’ve had four different combinations in four weeks.
“Cullo would be playing on the left side and Tyrone could go to the right where he’s played most of his footy for us.
“That’s how we trained the other day.”
Henry said Taylor’s problem remained a mystery but he was expected to be back in the fold next week.
“The surgeons couldn’t really work it out. They originally thought appendicitis or a gall bladder infection,” Henry said.
“We think he got a slight tear in an oblique muscle then when he got knocked on the head he got a knee to the ribs. It didn’t really flare up for a couple of days.
“It’s a bit of a mystery really but that’s what the surgeon seems to think.’’
