LUKE Keary has revealed he had no regrets about storming out on Russell Crowe after being berated by the Hollywood star during a boozy pre-season bonding session.
Keary said the criticism was “inappropriate’’ and he was so angry he caught a taxi straight to Coffs Harbour Airport and waited for a 6am flight to Sydney after leaving the property of the Rabbitohs owner.
The training camp bust-up follows rumours of unrest among the players following a shake-up of the roster to accommodate Sam Burgess’s return.
Despite the latest drama, the five-eighth declared he was “100 per cent committed to South Sydney’’.
Keary said the trouble began when they started drinking after dinner at the pre-Christmas camp.
“We rocked up to Russell’s house around lunchtime on a Thursday and we were due to go home the next day on a bus,’’ Keary said.
“We were having a really good time, playing cricket and a bit of tennis. The whole team was there and there were some really good vibes. We started on the beers after dinner and, when you mix alcohol, that’s when things can happen. A couple of things were said. I thought they were inappropriate, so I thought it was best I didn’t stay.’’
Asked what was said that triggered his decision to snap at the Oscar winner, Keary said: “Out of respect to Russell and the other boys who were there, I won’t say exactly what (was said).

“It started off as a bit of banter and went too far. There were some throwaway comments. He never stood up in front of the group and started spraying us or anything like that.
“In the end, I’d just had enough of what was being said to some of the other boys. That’s when he said some things to me and it kicked off.
“I don’t regret what happened because I know I didn’t do anything wrong.
“Looking back now, I was really angry, but Russell never meant anything by it and he never meant any harm.
“Sometimes you say things on the piss and when you’re on the piss you can also take things the wrong way.
“He reached out to me about a week later and my respect for him has really grown because of it. I felt he was very sincere and cares about me and the boys. We all know he cares about the club and just wants to win football games.’’
Crowe took the blame for the trouble at his property, which was revealed in The Sunday Telegraph on January 10.
“Luke Keary situation entirely my fault,’’ Crowe tweeted from Milan. “A bit of banter that went too far. I’ve apologised. He is a natural leader and great for our club.’’

Keary admitted he was so angry he considered seeking a release from the final year of his deal. But once he calmed down he realised it would be a foolish decision.
“I’ve enjoyed my past four years at the club and I’m 100 per cent committed to this year,’’ he said.
“I’m off contract after that, but my manager and club will talk through what’s best for both parties and, hopefully, they can come to an agreement.’’
