The Broncos are slowly piecing their recruitment reputation back together with another big signing announcement on Friday securing the hottest playmaking talent in Queensland.

Brisbane has announced rookie halfback Ezra Mam has been promoted to the club’s senior squad after a boom year in the Queensland Cup where he was named rookie of the year.

The 19-year-old has now extended his deal with the club through to the end of the 2024 season and Brisbane football department boss Ben Ikin has openly touted the speedster as the eventual long-term successor to star signing Adam Reynolds, who this year signed a three-year deal to leave the Rabbitohs for the Broncos.

Mam was reportedly the hottest playmaking talent in Queensland and the Broncos moved quickly to snap him up before rival clubs could make their move.

“Ezra has come through the Broncos system and it’s been enjoyable watching him grow as a footballer,” Ikin said.

“His transition into senior footy last year showcased not only his great natural ability, but also a high level of toughness for someone so young.

“Ezra will now have the opportunity to learn from one the game’s best playmakers in Adam Reynolds over the coming years – it’s a great result for both Ezra and for the Broncos.

It is another big win for the Broncos after the club’s nightmare 18-months of recruitment and retention.

The club had recently been heavily criticised over its roster strategy with a host of stars all leaving the club, including David Fifita, Sam Walker, Xavier Coates and Reece Walsh.

Tom Dearden, Tevita Pangai Jr, Anthony Milford, Matt Lodge and Andrew McCullough also left the club recently as part of a complete roster re-build.

The club has been making some big gambles in its recruitment this year with the extension of Kotoni Staggs on a long-term deal and the long-term deal offered to Reynolds.

Staggs is expected to move to play five-eighth in 2022.

The club has also landed some big wins in its recent signings with Mam joining, Jesse Arthurs and Brendan Piakura in re-signing. The club also has Brenko Lee and Kurt Capewell moving to the club next year.
