SuperCoach NRL: Six things we learned from Tigers v Knights, Rabbitohs v Dolphins

Souths suffered an injury blow, some SuperCoach guns impressed at the Dolphins, while there’s some stars to watch among the Tigers and Knights. Here are six things we learned on Friday night.

Another horror injury for the Rabbitohs

The Newcastle Knights defeated the Wests Tigers, and South Sydney knocked off the Dolphins in our Friday night double-header. Relive all the live action here including the key SuperCoach takeaways.

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM RABBITOHS vs DOLPHINS

1. TYRONE MUNRO IS HIGH RISK HIGH REWARD

There’s no doubting Tyrone Munro’s ability, as his two tries and 63 points in just 40 minutes attests. But there’s plenty of risk here too. Munro did not take the field in the second half and had his arm in a sling at full-time after appearing to suffer a third collarbone injury. At a tick under $400K there will be plenty tempted to buy when he’s fit again but also plenty fearing his seeming fragility.

2. MAX PLATH IS A WORKER

Plath was a revelation in the middle in 2024 getting through a mountain of work defensively. There was a fear that his shift to an edge would see s drop off in base stats but the little nugget still made 40 tackles and 11 runs for a base of 57 points. With a try and linebreak as well those who owned him will be more than happy with 85 points.

3. JYE GRAY IS NOT LATRELL MITCHELL, BUT HE’S NOT BAD

Sure, Jye Gray may be half the size of Latrell Mitchell, but the diminutive fullback gets through twice the amount of work of South Sydney’s regular fullback. Gray had 24 runs, 10 tackebusts and a try/linebreak assist for a very handy 69 points (pre-updates).

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM WESTS TIGERS vs KNIGHTS

1. PONGA IS THE NO.1 MAN

Kalyn Ponga couldn’t have started the 2025 NRL season any better. He looked sharp and free in attack and a pillar of strength in defence. He made two line breaks and assisted in another while he also made nine tackle busts. If Ponga isn’t in your SuperCoach side, maybe he should be.

2. LUAI SHOWED SIGNS

He is the premiership Panther who is determined to show he can carry his own side away from the shadows of Nathan Cleary. Luai looked every bit the man who the Tigers needed, making some huge plays in defence while being a live wire in offence. His influence deteriorated towards the end of the game but it was a good start for his new club.

3. SKELTON ONE TO WATCH

Jeral Skelton was enormous for Wests. Not only did he score the Tigers only try he made 22 hit ups and a line break. The work horse was reliable and could have SuperCoach users salivating.
